No third place for Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta who had to surrender to Fiorentina in injury time on the 29th matchday. On the day of Vincenzo Italiano’s farewell to the Viola, the Tuscan team prevailed at the Gewiss Stadium 2-3 with goals from Belotti with a double and Nico Gonzalez. While Lookman and Scalvini scored for Atalanta.
Also saying goodbye to Serie A is Daniele Orsato, in the 290th and final direction of his career. The race director from Schio was honored at the end of the match by both teams.

Back and forth: 5 goals in the first half

Ready, go and Fiorentina take the lead, with a header from Gallo Belotti, thanks to the distraction of Atalanta and in particular of Hien and the not irreproachable Carnesecchi. Viola’s lightning start takes the Dea by surprise, but they only need six minutes to equalize. The goal is scored by the usual Ademola Lookman, who, magically fed by Charles De Ketelaere, beats the debutant Martinelli.

Fiorentina just needs another handful of minutes to regain the lead. Nico Gonzalez converts a cross from captain Biraghi into a goal. Atalanta, eager to take 3rd place, raises the pressure and takes only 13 minutes to find a new equalizer and does so with a great right-footed shot from distance by Giorgio Scalvini.
The 2-2 seems to be the result that the two teams will take at half-time, but in the first minute of injury time it is once again Belotti who punishes the Goddess. The first half therefore ends 2-3 for the Viola.

The Goddess tries in vain for a draw

In the second half, Atalanta increased the pressure again while Fiorentina limited themselves to acting on the counterattack. Before the halfway point of the second half, the Dea had the first great opportunity to equalize with Pasalic who fired a powerful shot from a ball placed in the center, but only hit the crossbar. Ten minutes later Koopmeiners’ visionary throw catches Scamacca who controls brilliantly and serves the insertion of Miranchuk. The Russian jumps to Quarta but ends up wide with a sure shot with his left foot.

In the second part of the second half, bad news arrives for Atalanta and coach Spalletti. Scalvini suffers an unnatural twist in his left knee and leaves the field very sore and in tears.
In the final Martinelli says no to Scamacca with a nice flying save and sets the result at 2-3.
