Just before 1pm today in the Reggio seaport, at the end of a rescue operation at sea carried out by the Roccella Jonica Coast Guard, 85 migrants, mainly of Afghan nationality, disembarked. Among the refugees there are five women, three children under the age of 10 and an elderly woman in her eighties.
Before being rescued, transferred onto one of the patrol boats of the Roccella Jonica Coast Guard and taken safely into the port of Reggio Emilia, the migrants were on board a sailing boat located off the Ionian coast of Calabria, over 100 miles away. distance from the shore. From what emerged from the first checks carried out by the police after arriving in Roccella Jonica, the 85 migrants would be they left the coast of Türkiye about four days before being intercepted by the Reggio Coast Guard.
