the precautions to be taken – il Gazzettino di Gela

Ragusa – The Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Ragusa report that several scams have been perpetrated in the province, attempted or consummated, carried out by self-styled carabinieri, lawyers and 118 operators.

The modus operandi used always follows a very similar scheme: the scammer initially identifies the potential victim, usually an elderly person who is contacted by telephone, in most cases on a fixed line; at this point, a fake Carabinieri Marshal informs of the arrest of a relative, proposing his release in exchange for money to be paid into the hands of a lawyer who will shortly reach the victim of the scam at his home. Scenarios can change and fraudsters, like real actors, now stage a road accident involving the family member, now the seizure of the vehicle or the issuing of an administrative fine which requires the payment of a certain sum to avoid criminal charges .

From the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Ragusa they report that investigations are already underway aimed at identifying the authors of cases of fraud of this type which have occurred in recent days, some of whom have managed to obtain undue profits of hundreds of euros. In this regard, the Carabinieri urge potential victims to pay maximum attention and invite their next of kin to warn their most fragile loved ones, warning that “no Carabiniere requests money for any reason”.

The Carabinieri remind you that if you receive anomalous phone calls or visits to your home, you should immediately contact the single emergency number 112, in order to receive immediate assistance and information on how to best repel the attempted scam.
