They stopped him for a routine check. Personal and car documents, classic procedure. But at the Penne police station patrol, something about the man’s behavior didn’t add up. Too nervous, agitated. So they decided to carry out a more thorough check and the man became even more agitated. Other soldiers arrived on site, those from the operational unit of the Nor of Penne’s company, directed by Captain Alfio Rapisarda, who carried out more accurate checks. Checks on the car and personal search. And so it was that seven doses of cocaine came out of a trouser pocket, all carefully wrapped in heat-sealed packages and ready to be sold. The man also had four thousand euros in cash. Identified, he turned out to be a fifty-one year old, who works in the Fire Brigade. When he was stopped he was not on duty.

TREASURE

In light of the drugs and money found, the police decided to carry out a house search: no drugs were found in the house, but a precision scale and materials used for packaging the drugs were found. There was also other money: around eighteen thousand euros, in banknotes of various denominations. The fifty-one-year-old was unable to provide any explanation as to the origin of the money. Assuming that it was the proceeds of drug dealing, all the money was therefore seized. The man was then arrested for possession for the purpose of dealing drugs. The man was then arrested and placed under house arrest while waiting to appear before the magistrate for the validation hearing which took place yesterday morning in a courtroom of the Pescara courthouse. The arrest was validated but no precautionary measures were applied to the fifty-one-year-old, who has no criminal record, and he was therefore released. Most likely also because the quantity of drugs he had with him was not significant.

The Carabinieri’s investigations continue, also starting from the seized material, especially the large sums of liquid money, to verify any illicit activities. All precautions relating to the presumption of innocence therefore remain, as the investigations are, at this stage, truly in their very early stages. The fifty-one-year-old was not on duty when he was checked and any responsibilities, yet to be ascertained, are not to be connected with his working life. The Carabinieri of the Penne company monitor very carefully all the dynamics connected to the phenomenon of drug dealing in the area.
