Two endless wings of the Nerazzurri-tinged crowd accompanied Atalanta as they triumphed in the Europa League last night, on the night that Bergamo had always been waiting for and will never forget. The long night of celebration for Dublin’s heroes, the open-top bus parade with the Cup, the team and the entire staff. A long tour descending from the upper city, walking along the historic walls (covered by Nerazzurri tarpaulins) and then immersing yourself in an immense crowd, in Porta Nuova, among tens of thousands of fans of all ages. From the children brought by their parents, in a traditional generational handover of support, from father to son, to the many elderly people accompanied by their grandchildren: all rigorously wearing Nerazzurri.
The color that united an entire city, which for nine days has been experiencing a sort of honeymoon, a collective daydream, after having experienced the nightmare of Covid four years ago, with scars in every family or condominium that the triumph of the Goddess has perhaps definitively sutured. A state of mind, that of Bergamo united by the infinite love for Atalanta, summed up by the words spoken this morning by coach Gian Piero Gasperini: “In these days we have understood what we have behind us, how great the love we receive is, we realized that behind us there is enormous happiness, it was what gave us the most pleasure of all. Every time we go around the city, in bars, on the street, we see people who are happy, for us this was the greatest success. We understood what the history of Bergamo is, what is behind this team, all the players who came through and brought a small contribution, it is extraordinary to understand what Atalanta Questa represents strength will help us in the coming seasons.”
In the evening, as mentioned, the long parade, with the Nerazzurri players leading the chants with the megaphone (the Dutch unleashed) and a few tears in the eyes of president Percassi. Tomorrow, for the last home match at 6pm against Fiorentina, the Nerazzurri people will celebrate again. A success would give them third place in Serie A.
