Advanced Simulation Siena success for Specialization School

Advanced simulation: great satisfaction for the School of Specialization in Anesthesia, Resuscitation, Intensive and Pain Therapy of the University of Siena, directed by Professor Sabino Scolletta, head of the Department of Emergency-Urgency and of the DEA, Trauma and Anesthesia and Resuscitation structure Organ failure in the Sienese university hospital.

The specialist doctors Luca Gargiulo, Alessandro Lamendola, Francesca Silva and Lorenzo Sorelli, coordinated by Professor Federico Franchi, director of Anesthesia and Cardio-Thoraco-Vascular Resuscitation, won the 2024 Champions League Advanced Simulation, as part of the 35th Smart Meeting Anesthesia Resuscitation inTensive Care, which took place in Milan from 29 to 31 May.

«We are extremely enthusiastic and proud of this result – declares Professor Scolletta – above all because the great commitment of the specialist doctors in their training path within our hospital and in this specific event was rewarded, which allowed them a further update regarding to technologies in the anesthetic-resuscitation field which are constantly evolving. The Schools of Specialization in Anesthesia-Resuscitation of Bologna, Novara, Ancona, Milan/Monza, Monza, Turin and Brescia also participated in the advanced simulation championship and the Siena school reached the final with that of Milan belonging to the ASST Grande Ospedale Metropolitano Niguarda and won. Congratulations indeed to our doctors in training.”

«The high-fidelity simulation – adds Professor Federico Franchi – involved our specialist doctors in areas such as intensive care, the delivery room, up to situations in a hostile environment. In addition to the great satisfaction of winning this championship, which follows last year’s second place, this event has a very important educational purpose. The advanced technology of simulators and hyper-realistic patients equipped with artificial intelligence have in fact recreated strategic training settings to better prevent and manage clinical risk.”

A special thanks to Dr. Giovanni Sbrana, teacher in our specialization school and responsible for Maxi Emergencies Management, Civil Protection Contact and UOC Helicopter Rescue Grosseto Aziendale USL Tuscany South-East, because he consolidated the skills of the trainees on advanced simulators and on aspects of Human Factors. Finally, the success achieved in Milan is the result of teamwork which also includes the professionalism of all the anesthetists-resuscitators of the Siena university hospital who are supported on a daily basis by our young doctors in intensive care, in the operating room and in in-hospital emergencies.
