MESSINA – A movement that looks to the right but in opposition to Meloni and Salvini. “Ours is the truly useful vote,” declared the national coordinator of Popular Alternative with a defiantly air Stefano Bandecchi, yesterday in Messina alongside the candidates of the Islands constituency for the European elections. The day began with the inauguration of the new headquarters in via Sant’Agostino 4, in the presence of the president Paolo Alli, the regional coordinator Alfonso Alaimo and the candidate from Messina Massimo Romagnoli.
Paolo Alli, president of Alternativa Popolare, outlined the long-term vision of the movement. “I imagine a slow but continuous growth path, seizing the opportunities that arise. The European elections represent a testing ground and a starting point for our project, which will always see us within the European People’s Party”.
Alfonso Alaimo, regional coordinator of Alternativa Popolare, highlighted: “The criterion for selecting the candidates was that of competence. We are a party that wants to bring about a turning point in Italian politics in terms of content, capacity and competence. We have chosen experts in European financing and other key sectors in our list.”
Massimo Romagnoli, candidate in the European elections, underlined “the importance of European funds to address local problems. After visiting hundreds of municipalities in Sicily and Sardinia, I have seen the various problems first-hand. I am sure that these can be addressed effectively through European funds, following the positive example of Puglia which, by exploiting these funds, has significantly improved its socio-economic situation”.
“We are the alternative to the old politics”
Finally Bandecchi, national coordinator of Alternativa Popolare and a well-known figure in the media, expressed confidence in the growth of the party which represents “the alternative to the old politics” and in the choice of Massimo Romagnoli as candidate: “Today, as the name itself says, the movement represents the alternative for voters. Our growth project for the next few years scares the parties, and this is why they tried to exclude our lists from the European elections. However, thanks to the Court of Cassation, which recognized our motivations and our membership of the European People’s Party, we are back in the running and will demonstrate our strength on the field.”
Bandecchi continued: “What led me to choose Romagnoli and put him on the list? Romagnoli was chosen on the basis of his competence, ability to do things and desire to give himself to others. He is no stranger to politics. He has a very interesting and particular personal story. He, like many other candidates we have, stands out for his experience and determination. Sicily and Sardinia need significant change and I am convinced that Romagnoli is the right person.”
