Land of the Aurelia bis, Rolando: “Great opportunity for Sanremo”

“I don’t want to transform this electoral campaign into a comparison of technical expertise”, states the mayoral candidate of the civic and party centre-right Gianni Rolando, regarding the controversy over the landfill of excavation materials from the Aurelia Bis in Pian di Poma. Rolando wants to clarify the issue by stating that: “It is important for the city as it would ‘steal’ at least 20 thousand square meters of surface area from the sea, equivalent to approximately 1,000 parking spaces or two football fields”.

“The cost of the landfill would not be borne by the municipality because it would be included in the construction costs of the Aurelia bis borne by Anas, provided that the right economic balance exists. The work is feasible – continues Rolando – as it is enough to read the existing maps and it is clear that at that point the poseidonia is about 60 meters away from the foot of the current cliff and therefore it is possible to widen it by at least 50 meters for a estimated front of 400 linear metres. It is natural that before filling with earth it is necessary to create a protective cliff and subsequent sealing sheets with geotextile, to avoid polluting; it is normal practice. Reading the data provided by the engineer. Puppo based on the costs, taking at face value the quantities of cliff needed for each linear meter of intervention expressed by my colleague, even if in a first analysis there could also be significant reductions, it is specified that the intervention is 400 meters long and not 700 meters and that behind the new cliff there is still the existing cliff, designed by Puppo and therefore I believe with the same criteria. Assuming that we recover a third of the existing cliff by volume (a largely precautionary value), it is clear that the overall cost of the cliff work could be around 10 million euros”.

“It should also be taken into account that the excavation of a deep tunnel, such as those of the Aurelia bis, constitutes in itself a ‘quarry’ of boulders and therefore there would be a further cost saving (again borne by Anas)”, explains Rolando . “To house the approximately 200 thousand cubic meters of embankment, based on current price lists, it is necessary to pay the landfill managers a sum of approximately 9.5 million euros. It being understood that Anas would have a great economic saving also due to the issue relating to the transport of a few kilometres, from the Cava Cangiotti in Capo Nero, where the connection between the current Aurelia and the Aurelia bis is planned, to Pian di Poma”.

“Therefore – concludes Rolando – Anas would have a significant economic advantage, and above all Sanremo would have an expansion of the usable surface for free and above all it would not have, at least for these 200 thousand cubic metres, the transit of trucks in the city. I believe this choice to be pursued vigorously with Anas by the municipal administration is fundamental, with the exchange of ideas with the citizens and the development of the necessary executive projects”.
