Badia’s question tomorrow on the flooding of recent days

BADIA POLESINE (Rovigo) – The minority group leader Manuel Berengan addressed a written question to the mayor and councilors Stefano Seganti, Stefano Baldo and Cristian Brenzan, on the flooding that occurred in the city in recent days.

Dated 26 May, question number 5 of 2024 calls into question the competent municipal authorities to obtain clarifications on the consequences of the wave of bad weather which produced heavy rainfall on 15-16 May.

The council group asks the municipal administration, according to the data held by the municipal offices, which areas have been reported to have been affected by flooding phenomena. Secondly, whether there have been public buildings (kindergartens, schools, hospitals, other public body structures) affected by flooding and/or water infiltration phenomena. How many sanctions were issued in 2023 and from January 1st of this year by the Local Police Force to the owners of the properties who did not clean the drains under their responsibility. Finally, given the participation in the cleaning service of the city drains through an agreement stipulated with the company Acquevenete SpA (with Council Resolution 27 of 23 February), the question requests to know “… when was the last cleaning intervention cleaning of the same drains carried out by the aforementioned company and which city streets were affected since, during the flooding phenomena, many citizens reported the presence of earth and debris of various kinds inside the drains”.

Group leader Berengan would also like to know the number of interventions and the areas covered by the Fire Brigade and the local Civil Protection with excess water extraction systems.

The question asks whether, in addition to the project that the Municipality of Badia is currently following with the Adige-Po Reclamation Consortium for an estimated expected expenditure of 249,000 euros (as declared at the time of approval of the 2024 budget forecast) to combat the phenomenon of flooding, future and potential interventions are planned (also co-financed by external funding sources) to intervene on the most critical points of the city sewerage network, which is highly inadequate to collect particularly intense water flows but which, following the certified change climate, could become a constant in our territory.

“Given that the meteorological phenomenon has severely affected commercial activities and a temporary municipal storage of the material of the “AE Baruffaldi” Civic Museum in the area of the “Artisan Workshops” of Vangadizza, – concludes the document signed by Manuel Berengan – we require to know the exact causes of the flooding that occurred in that area and the future actions that the Administration intends to adopt (even urgently) to adapt the rainwater drainage system to strongly limit (if not also cancel ) any future flooding to the detriment of existing economic activities”.
