Lamezia. “Masks – hidden identities” at Villa Glicini, Concetta Cantafio’s solo exhibition

The presentation of the painting exhibition “Masks, hidden identities” by the artist from Lamezia is scheduled for Friday 31 May 2024 at 6 pm Concetta Cantafio

The solo show will be set up in the evocative setting of Villa Glicini in via dei Glicini 37/A in Lamezia Terme. The exhibition-event is curated by Giovanna Adamo, president of the artistic-cultural association “Arte&antichità Passato Prossimo”; the works on display will be illustrated by Ghislain Mayaud, critic and art historian.

There will be twenty of my works on display – explains Concetta Cantafio – all expressions of that mask that each of us wears every day for pleasure or duty. A tool that serves to shield the pain, the suffering generated by the many ordeals that life regularly presents to us as a test bed every day; and here the mask becomes indispensable for us adults. Instead – underlines the artist – the only true mask that has reason to exist should be that of cheerfulness, of happiness, worn only by children who are the emblem of purity and sincerity”.

Giovanna Adamo, curator of the exhibition, highlights the cathartic function that painting has in Concetta Cantafio’s life: a world of brushes and canvases to be colored with the many nuances of existence, sometimes manifested with gracefulness, other times with marked tones and strong colours. From levity to pathos, a journey of polychromatic sequences in which to get lost and question yourself.

Ghislain Mayaud was born in Valence (France) on 25 August 1951. In 1968 he obtained the BEPC at the “Paul Cézanne” high school in Aix en Provence. In 1969 he participated in the theater and mime seminars directed by Ingemar Lindh and Yves Lebreton at the “Centre Dramatique” in Aix en Provence. In 1970 he completed his studies at the “Paul Cézanne” high school. In the same year he was admitted to attend the limited-enrollment university theater course at the Théâtre du Gymnase in Marseille, directed by director Andonis Vouyoucas. Also in Marseille he followed the seminars of the Polish director Gerzy Grotowski, one of the most eminent figures of the theatrical avant-garde of the twentieth century. Currently Mayaud, poet, painter and sculptor, collaborates with various Italian galleries.

Appointment at Villa Glicini on May 31st at 6pm with the exhibition – event “Masks, hidden identities” by Concetta Cantafio.
