The history of the show is known. We are in 2001, July 12, in old Bari. Michele Fazio he is almost 16 years old and was returning home when he was caught in crossfire. From that death was born a story of resistance, of strength, a story of anti-mafia. Since that death, the voice of Lella, Michele’s mother, has risen, a voice that has echoed the fight for legality, the voice of a woman who has never lowered her gaze in the face of violence.

The story of Michele and Lella has become a play written by Osvaldo Capraro and played by Sara Bevilacqua who also directed it. STOC DDO’ – I STAND HERE is the true story of Lella, who from that day on, with the sole presence of her injured mother, imposes the demands of justice on the clans, denouncing, testifying, looking into the eyes of those who want to impose silence on her. “I don’t run away – she says – and I don’t even close the door of the house: I stay here”. Where, Lella, did you get the strength to fight a war that never saw you lower your gaze? From her example as her mother, she is ‘Nenette, a woman determined to educate her children about the substance of things. From the support of her husband Pinuccio, her family and the people of the neighborhood. But, above all, from the never-ending dialogue with Michele, the cheerful boy, the angel of Bari Vecchia.

STOC DDO’ – I STO QU will be performed, free of charge, on Monday 27 May 2024, at 7.00 pm in the “B. Grimaldi – L. Lombardi” in via Lombardia 2 in Bari. Before the show, speakers will be Lella and Pinuccio Fazio, Michele’s parents, Maria Pia Vigilante president of the Giraffa association, Valeria Montaruli president of the Juvenile Court of Bari, Ines Pierucci councilor for culture of the Municipality of Bari, the police commissioner of Bari Giovanni Signer and Don Angelo Cassano, representative of Libera for Bari.

The show is the second of the special events planned by the Second Life project, a project created with the support of Fondazione con il Sud, in some of the difficult neighborhoods of the city of Bari. Second Life is a project that aims to strengthen the actions of the anti-violence center “Paola Labriola” managed by the APS GIRAFFA in order to bring out and accompany a greater number of women victims of male violence to recover their self-esteem, and to start an innovative path that works on economic violence and social-work inclusion. But it is also a project that wants to promote cultural change.

«We decided to continue our awareness-raising activity in the San Paolo neighborhood of Bari, not because it was considered a peripheral neighborhood – he has declared Maria Pia Vigilante, president of Giraffa – but because we know that it has many fragilities whose consequences very often fall on women. We decided to bring this theatrical piece into the Second Life project because it represents a serious violence that Lella, as a mother, and Pinuccio, as a father, suffered following the killing of Michele Fazio. It is not possible to make a ranking of male violence committed against women, and in this case the entire family, but it is possible to work day after day to restore legality and respect for human rights. Legality and respect for human rights go together and constitute the strength of a healthy society like the one that each of us must demand every day.”

Entrance is free and free while seats last.
