SULMONA. The renovation work on the De Nino-Morandi school building in Sulmona, closed since 17 October 2014, has been postponed to the end of the year, following the investigation into the alleged post-earthquake works, carried out incorrectly, now archived with the statute of limitations. The announcement comes from the president of the Province Angelo Carusofollowing the meeting that the organization had with the technicians at the Supervision of Public Works until last year, the implementing body for the execution of the interventions.
The handover had been blocked in recent weeks, ending up disregarding the commitments made before the prefect of L’Aquila, Giancarlo Di Vincenzowhich had convened the parties in recent months, at the request of the committee, chaired by Franco D’Amico. The tender and works were postponed due to some anomalies found on the project, discovered only now by the Province which was in the process of preparing the public notice to entrust the renovation works. For this reason, the situation was taken stock of in a technical summit. «The meeting was promoted by our manager to ask for some clarifications on the project developed and transmitted by the Superintendency», explains Caruso. «The findings arise from some design anomalies, namely the location of the heating plant and the lift in the unusable part and on which no interventions are planned. The Superintendent could only agree with us. For this reason we will now make changes to the project, so that these technologies are brought back to the part of the building subject to intervention”.
According to Caruso, the works should be tendered by December. A long history, that of De Nino-Morandi, if we consider that October 17th marks ten years since its closure. A part of the school, despite the investigation being closed, still remains seized. In recent weeks, at the request of the committee, the Province had asked the L’Aquila Public Prosecutor’s Office to remove the seals.
«At the moment we have not yet had any feedback», adds Caruso, according to whom the release from seizure will in any case arrive in time to start the works. Meanwhile, the two institutes returned to Sulmona in September 2022 after having been transferred, for about eight years, to the building that houses the Pratola Peligna industrial technical institute. The return effect was seen on registrations, particularly for surveyors. There will be at least 13 students who will form the first section of the construction, environment and territory course next September, which is destined to increase between now and the middle school exams. The committee of former teachers is following the evolution of the matter and, in recent weeks, has returned to ask for a new meeting at the prefecture.
