Legnano – The evening, organized by Legnanese familyaims to make fellow citizens better acquainted with the figure of the Legnano doctor, Ettore Beghi (1947-2022). Beghi perfected his knowledge at the famous Mayo Clinic in Rochester (Minnesota) and participated, throughout his life, in conferences and study meetings all over the world.
Even though he graduated from the scientific high school and has always lived in the city, Dr. Beghi is little known in Legnano. Yet, on a scientific level, his person and his studies are well known in international circles. This is demonstrated by the numerous contributions he published in prestigious journals such as «Clinical Drug Investigation», «Neuroepidemiology», «Inpharma», «Drug in R & D», «Neurological Sciences», «Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis». His research has focused on the neuroepidemiology of epilepsy and motor neuron diseases in the world, without neglecting the study of other diseases in the neurological field, such as Peripheral Neuropathy and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Myasthenia Gravis (MG), Parkinson’s disease, and also rare neurological diseases such as Guillain-Barré syndrome. For decades, Beghi was a close collaborator of Silvio Garattini, until he became director of the laboratory for neurological diseases at the “Mario Negri” Institute. Beghi also carried out hospital work at the Neurological Clinic of the San Gerardo Hospital in Monza. For all these reasons the Municipality of Legnano awarded him with civic merit, in his memory, in 2023.
The evening in memory of Ettore Beghi will see the participation of scholars with whom he worked closely: in addition to the famous Silvio Garattini, profs will participate. Cesare Maria Cornaggia, Carlo Ferrarese, Giancarlo Logroscino and Elisabetta Pupillo. Prof. will introduce. Giorgio Vecchio, historian, personal friend of Ettore Beghi. It will be the moment to remember Beghi’s contribution to scientific research, but also to take stock of the diagnosis and treatment of such widespread and serious diseases.
