Reggio Emilia The viale 4 Novembre committee rises up and asks the prefecture and prosecutor’s office to intervene as soon as possible, not only to stop the rampant wave of crime in the neighborhood, but also for the health and hygiene situation, given the now serial practice of abandoning waste. He does so with a complaint to the prefecture and the prosecutor’s office, which he would like to be followed by an energetic response to protect citizens, also from this aspect. And he asks for the army’s intervention again.
«The members of the IV Novembre committee intend to illustrate the disastrous hygienic-sanitary situation that is perpetuated in the areas surrounding the historic station with inevitable repercussions on the well-being of the inhabitants, in particular in anticipation of the summer and the rise in temperatures – they write in the document – . The streets are in a state of complete abandonment by the bodies responsible for minimum maintenance worthy of a civil society: skeletons of bicycles, bulky waste abandoned on the pavements, bins full of undifferentiated waste, mice and human excrement everywhere. The neighborhood is quickly turning into a ghetto on the margins of civil society.” «We ask ourselves who is responsible for taking care of and maintaining the minimum decorum requirements of such a strategic neighborhood for our city, a gateway for thousands of commuters. Who must safeguard the health of the residents of the area? Shops in the area should be checked periodically and meet minimum safety standards, for example not having smashed or broken windows. The presence of the army would be a great deterrent, we will never stop repeating it”, add the citizens”.
«The municipal council – they point out – has paid too little attention to the neighbourhood, turning a deaf ear and making false promises, while the situation has worsened terribly in recent years. Ours is not a perceived insecurity, but an absolutely real and tangible one, not only for us residents, but also for all the customers who pass through there. The underestimation of the problems has created the conditions for the degradation to spread like wildfire to other areas surrounding the historic center.”
The committee, therefore, «reports the very serious situation in the area of the historic station to carefully evaluate whether rules aimed at protecting citizens have been violated. We are confident in a concrete interest in making the neighborhood in question more livable in terms of health and safety standards”, say the citizens, appealing to the prosecutor’s office and the prefecture.
