Degree in nautical engineering. Off to the course on the Forlì Campus

The master’s degree course in Nautical Engineering, which will start in September at the Forlì Campus of the Alma Mater, will be the first in Emilia-Romagna and the only one in the entire Adriatic coast. Similar degree courses are found only in four other Italian cities with a consolidated maritime vocation: Genoa, Naples, La Spezia and Trieste. The course, created as a response to a strong need expressed by the industrial ecosystem of the area, aims to train second level graduates capable of operating in the design and production of pleasure boats, and their components, in all phases of product development, starting from the moment of conception, design and engineering up to large-scale production and distribution and diffusion in the market. Just in recent days, the memorandum of understanding was signed between the parties involved: Unibo, the Municipality of Forlì, the Region, the Cassa dei Risparmi Foundation, the Chamber of Commerce and the promoting multinational, Ferretti spa. The location of the course will be at the aerospace technological hub, next to the Ridolfi airport, where the two master’s degree courses, Aerospace and Mechanical engineering for sustainability, already operate, in order to guarantee student access to the laboratory area and the activation of important synergies, for example in the field of fluid dynamics (also thanks to the presence on the Forlì Campus of the Ciclope research infrastructure, dedicated to the study of wall turbulence), propulsion, construction, design with composite materials. The two years of the course include teachings ranging from preparatory subjects, such as mathematics, physics and fluid dynamics, to the fundamental ones of nautical engineering, such as naval architecture, naval construction and systems, design and methods of industrial engineering. The master’s degree course can be accessed by having obtained a three- or five-year degree in Industrial Engineering, or by having an equivalent qualification obtained abroad. Among the entry requirements, there will be passing a preparation test. The presence of important companies in the sector in the area and the proximity to the port area of Ravenna will make laboratory experiences, internships and degree theses particularly interesting, which can therefore be carried out in close collaboration with the various companies.
