VICENZA – After the postponement due to bad weather at the Menti, the Vicenza-Padova derby takes place and with a brace from Ferrari, Lane wins 2-0, gaining an important advantage to exploit in the return match at Euganeo. Vicenza, after having prevailed against Taranto in the first round of the “National” playoffs, managed to reach the quarter-finals and Christian Brocchi’s hand drew the most difficult draw: Vicenza-Padova, with the biancoscudati making their debut in the post season thanks to the second place achieved in the regular season. As expected, Vecchi brings in fresh forces for the match against the Apulians: Sandon, Talarico, Tronchin and Pellegrini come on for a 3-4-1-2, while Oddo’s Padova lines up with Bortolussi leading the attack and Liguori behind him to create a little fantasy. In the first minutes the Biancoscudati don’t seem to suffer from their absence from competitions for almost a month: they fight for every ball and cover every possible gap well but in the 10th minute Vecchi’s team is the protagonist of a masterful move with Costa putting a cross to the center of the area and finds Ferrari who anticipates Faedo and touches it slowly from two steps, hitting Donnarumma’s goal. In the 19th minute, another good chance for Vicenza who goes into the offensive phase with Pellegrini who takes the white-shielded goalkeeper for a walk around the penalty area, crosses into the middle where, however, he finds no one ready to take advantage. A minute passes and Vicenza could double their lead even with Ferrari who almost surprises Oddo’s rearguard. In this phase of the game Padova suffered the actions of Lane and in the 23rd minute Crisetig was booked for a foul with his feet on Ferrari. Around the 25th minute the biancoscudati raise their center of gravity and get a corner but in the following action Vicenza is good at containing the guest attackers, Della Morte takes care of breaking the rhythm in the 28th minute with a shot from thirty meters which Donnarumma deflects for a corner . On the other hand, Padova tries in the 33rd minute with Varas who shoots from the spot but his shot is not very precise and Confente doesn’t risk much but Santo’s team insists, increases the pressure and also earns a corner which However, it does not cause particular dangers to the red and white goal. The first half continues at a rather high pace and with the red and whites being the protagonists of an action by Costa who looks for Talarico but the midfielder is anticipated by Villa and the chance vanishes. After the break the two teams return to the field without making any changes, Padova immediately presses in search of an equalizer but in the 50th minute Pippo Costa is the protagonist of another masterful action as he recovers the ball in the central area of the field and starts on the counterattack, he crosses into the middle where he finds Talarico who goes to the conclusion but the ball crashes against the crossbar, Ferrari pounces on the ball and shoots with a sure shot and doubles Vicenza’s advantage. With the 2-0 the home team can manage the result but Padova is aware of having to score at least one goal in order not to concede too many margins in the return match and in the 60th minute Cretella tries from distance but the ball ends up wide of some centimeter. In the meantime, the two coaches understand that the time has come to make some substitutions to preserve their condition in view of the Euganeo match and in the 66th minute Vicenza removes Talarico for De Col and Pellegrini for Delle Monache. In the 65th minute Cretella warms up Confente’s gloves again with a free kick from twenty meters which the Vicenza goalkeeper deflects for a corner. The red and whites now remain holed up in their half of the pitch with the Paduans trying to press and to facilitate the white shield push in the 73rd minute Oddo introduces Palombi, Radrezza and Belli in place of Crisetig, Liguori and Valente. Nothing significant happens anymore until the 85th minute but at this minute Ronaldo commits a foul and the referee awards a free kick which Cretella takes charge of: the Padua midfielder kicks with power and the ball crashes against the post. In the final minutes the Padova curve lights up by throwing firecrackers onto the pitch and the speaker is forced to ask for these gestures to be stopped which had already caused the injury of a fan of the “Fedelissimi” group in the first half. The referee grants five rounds of injury time in which Vicenza takes the lead but the result no longer changes and Vicenza wins 2-0 with an important advantage ahead of the return match.
