Bonuses worth tens of billions of euros such as those for construction “result in a transfer of public money to real estate, exacerbating social inequalities”, so “I wonder if it would not have been more right” to allocate them to the same sector, ” but towards the public heritage: schools, nursery schools and the suburbs”. This was said by the national anti-mafia and anti-terrorism prosecutor, Giovanni Melillo, in his speech at the Palace of Justice in Catania, at a meeting that preceded the signing of the district protocol implementing article 7 of the Caivano decree in the presence of, among others , by the president of the Anti-Mafia parliamentary commission, Chiara Colosimo.

«In recent days – stated prosecutor Melillo – I was in Secondigliano at the inauguration of a football pitch. For the community it was an exceptional event, but I wondered what was exceptional about it. Then I thought about the costs of the choice to allocate tens of billions of euros to the interventions of the so-called building bonuses which result in a transfer of public money to real estate ownership, i.e. a factor in the worsening of social inequalities. Obviously – the magistrate specified – I do not allow myself in any way to discuss the discretion of the legislator in using public resources, and above all on those as levers to restart the economy in a difficult phase. However – observed prosecutor Melillo – I ask myself, not only as a citizen but also as a magistrate who has had to deal with the phenomena of extraordinary abuse in which organized crime continues to thrive, if it had not been more just, as well as a guarantee of greater fairness, always allocate that money to the construction sector, but towards public assets: schools, nursery schools, the suburbs”.
