Trenitalia Summer Experience, many connections in Abruzzo

Also in Abruzzo from 9 June to 8 September the Trenitalia Summer Experience 2024. Regional connections with villages, beaches and cities of art are growing

New connections for summer tourist destinations, cities of art and villages and more intermodal and digital services for the benefit of travellers: the 2024 Summer Experience of the Passenger Hub of the FS Group – made up of Trenitalia (lead company), Busitalia, Ferrovie del Sud Est and FS Treni Turistici Italiani – will start on 9 June, enriched by latest generation trains also purchased with PNRR funds and directly assigned to Trenitalia.

The summer offer of the Trenitalia Regional in Abruzzo is characterized by direct and intermodal solutions designed to reach the most evocative destinations of a region rich in history, culture and natural beauty.

In addition to the national routes already announced, the Cerrano Line between Pescara and San Benedetto, the Trabocchi Line between Pescara and Termoli, the Aterno Line between Sulmona and L’Aquila and all intermodal services to reach the historic centers of L’Aquila will also return , Teramo and Avezzano and the Abruzzo Airport. Furthermore, on regional trains, spaces for bicycles will be increased.

In total there will be 154 on weekdays – 130 on Saturdays and 86 on holidays – Regional trains in circulation every day on the Abruzzo tracks. Among the other innovations affecting the region there is also the increase in the number of Frecciarossa trains, which have risen to 26 on the Adriatic Line which connects Abruzzo with the North and South of the country.

Throughout the summer, at the weekend, two Frecciarossa trains will also return between Bolzano and Pescara. Until September 15th four Frecciarossa trains per day and two additional ones at the weekend also in Giulianova and two daily trains also in Vasto San Salvo. Also worth mentioning are the 18 Intercity trains that will allow you to reach the main seaside resorts of Abruzzo.

Trenitalia’s daily offer includes more than 36 thousand seats to reach the most beautiful regional destinations – from the beaches to the villages and art cities of Abruzzo – quickly, conveniently and sustainably.

The Trabocchi Line offers 22 connections on weekdays and 16 connections on holidays: many useful solutions to reach the most evocative seaside resorts of the Trabocchi Coast and the Via Verde, the cycle path that runs along 42 kilometres, largely alongside the railway line . The Trabocchi Line, born in the summer of 2020, boasts continuously growing popularity: the summer of 2023 recorded 188 thousand travelers (+ 10% vs 2022) and an increase in bike transport of 21%.

The Cerrano Line provides 10 additional connections on holidays between Pescara and S. Benedetto, with stops in all the seaside resorts on the coast north of Pescara: Montesilvano, Silvi, Pineto, Scerne, Roseto, Giulianova, Tortoreto, Alba Adriatica and Martinsicuro .

In total on the Adriatic between Pescara and Giulianova there will be 52 connections on weekdays and 36 on holidays.

The Aterno Line has also been confirmed, with Sulmona-L’Aquila connections aimed at lovers of excursions and experiential tourism. The service allows you to reach the most evocative villages of the Aterno Valley on Saturdays and holidays, including Fagnano, Beffi and Fontecchio.

Intermodality

With intermodal services train+buscreated in collaboration with the main rubber players in Abruzzo, it is possible to reach the center of L’Aquila, Teramo and Avezzano or take advantage of the connection with the Abruzzo Airport with the Pescara Air Link, the non-stop departure/arrival transfer bus from the central station.

The intermodal offer includes almost 350 combined train+bus travel solutions, with bus departures and arrivals from the squares in front of the stations, with timetables coordinated with those of the trains. Intermodal trips can be purchased on the channels of the Trenitalia sales network, with a single purchase solution.

In a region like Abruzzo where the bike transport is freethanks to a memorandum of understanding with the Region, the availability of 12 stalls dedicated to bikes has increased on the Pop trains, while the Rock trains in circulation on the Ancona-Pescara route offer 15.

Furthermore, since April the all-bike carriages entirely dedicated to two-wheel lovers have returned to circulation. The special cars which offer 64 spaces, circulate in combination with the trains with the highest demand for bicycle transport, mainly along the Adriatic line, bringing the number of bicycle spaces available every day to almost 2,100

National trains in circulation in Abruzzo

With two new Frecciarossas in circulation between Milan and Pescara throughout the summer, there will be a total of 26 daily Frecciarossas between Turin/Milan/Venice and the Adriatic Coast, linking Abruzzo to the North and South of the country.

The Frecciarossa 9803 will leave Milan at 7.05am arriving in Pescara at 11.34am while the Frecciarossa 9810 will leave Pescara at 5.54pm to arrive under the Madonnina at 10.30pm.

However, the two additional Frecciarossas for the summer between Pescara and Bolzano will only circulate on Saturdays and Sundays: the Fr 8805 departing from Bolzano at 7.45am will arrive in Pescara at 2.13pm while the Fr 8826 departing from Pescara will arrive in Bolzano at 2.15pm at 8.43pm. Both trains will also stop at Giulianova station.

And it is precisely in Giulianova that another four Frecciarossa trains will stop each day throughout the summer: at 6.21am and 12.30pm the departures of Frecciarossa 8806 and 8818 coming respectively from Pescara and Lecce and heading to Milan (arrivals are 10.54am and 4.54pm respectively); at 5.26pm and 10.37pm the arrivals of Frecciarossa 8811 and 8823 coming from Milan (departures at 1.35pm and 5.50pm) and headed to Lecce and Pescara respectively.

Until September 15th two Frecciarossa trains a day also in Vasto San Salvo: the Frecciarossa 8803 departing from Milan at 8.05am for Bari (3.30pm) will arrive in Vasto San Salvo at 1.22pm while the Frecciarossa 8814 coming from Lecce (5.55am) will depart from Vasto at 9.33am to arrive in Milan at 2.25pm.

Trenitalia pet friendly

For the entire summer period – from 1 June to 15 September – dogs, cats and other pets, both small and large, will be able to board the Frecce and Intercity trains for free. On regional trains, small pets can always travel for free in a carrier. Two-wheel enthusiasts, however, will be able to transport their bikes for free on Intercity trains in the month of May and all year round on Ferrovie del Sud Est trains. Traveling with Trenitalia in the summer will be more convenient thanks to the numerous offers and promotions designed for every type of passenger. Trenitalia’s Frecce, Intercity and Regionale offer discounts for families, children, young people under 30, for those over 60, for those traveling in pairs, but also in groups. Promotions also for international tourists who will be able to purchase up to 10 trips on the Frecce, FrecciaLink, Intercity day and night and Eurocity starting from 139 euros. Discounts of up to 50% for those traveling with FS Treni Turistici Italiani.
