In an attempt to reduce road accidents, often characterized by serious injuries or deaths, the Bolzano Traffic Police has decided to intensify controls on the Merano-Bolzano highway, commonly known as “MeBo”. The adoption of approved speed camera devices along this road is part of a broader strategy to ensure compliance with speed limits, set at 110 km/h.

Despite clear warnings from the detection devices, officers detected numerous violations. In particular, impressive speeding was recorded: a motorbike and three cars with Italian license plates were caught traveling at speeds ranging from 173 to 192 km/h, particularly in the areas of Marlengo and Gargazzone.

The violators were notified of notifications based on article 142 paragraph 9 bis of the Highway Code. The penalties for such infringements are severe, ranging from 845 to 3,382 euros. Furthermore, the perpetrators of the violations will have to face the suspension of their driving license for a period ranging from 6 to 12 months and the deduction of 10 points from their licence. It should be noted that the motorcyclist involved had already exhausted the points on his license following previous infringements, a situation which now forces him to undergo a license review test.
