CATANIA – It has been partially closed to traffic for works since early April, but the works have not started. The complaint from Fiom CGIL and CGIL of Catania concerns the eighth street of the industrial area of Catania.
It is a main artery on which thousands of vehicles pass daily. The alternative road system, which for the union would not be perfectly viable, would put the safety of motorists is at riskdrivers of company vehicles and commuters.
Everyone would be forced to follow a bumpy route without adequate signage or lighting. According to the union, this would confirm “that the industrial area of Catania it is not yet a priority infrastructure and of value for politics and for the institutions of Catania and the Sicilian Region”.
The appeal to the Prefect
For the provincial secretary of the Fiom Cgil, Francesco Furnariand for the general secretary of the CGIL, Carmelo De Caudo“an intervention by the prefect and the institutions is necessary and urgent, so that workers can go to work in complete safety with a road network worthy of the wealth they contribute to producing in this city”.
For Fiom and CGIL, “the impression is that the good intentions announced last February 26, at the end of the much-needed meeting between the councilor Eddy Tamaio, the commissioner of the eastern Zes, Irsap and the Municipality of Catania, have turned out, once again, to be just electoral slogans”.
The invitation to the mayor
“Even today – continue Furnari and De Caudo – No construction sites have been started in the industrial area. During the initiative of the Catania industrialists a few days ago, the mayor of Catania, Trantino, denied that the logic of the rebound of responsibility for the inconveniences of the area had been applied”.
