Scams, the police meets the elderly over 80: “Here’s how to defend yourself”

For a day, the neighborhood policemen of Ancona met citizens over 80, both at their homes and at the local headquarters of the “Young people of yesterday” association, to warn them against scams. It is one of the stages of the anti-fraud campaign, promoted by the police commissioner of Ancona, Cesare Capocasa, which began on 16 April and has already involved around a hundred elderly people from Ancona. The police station operators spent time talking to the elderly, explaining to them what behavior to adopt to avoid ending up in the hands of scammers, also telling anecdotes to warn them against the risk of being involved and becoming victims of these hateful phenomena.

The police then explained the scammers’ modus operandi by underlining the revealing elements of the scam in progress, thus providing all the advice to avoid the solicitation. The prevention campaign against scams for the elderly continues thus, promoted by the police commissioner of Ancona, which began with the sending, and door-to-door delivery by neighborhood policemen, of a letter, jointly signed with the mayor Daniele Silvetti, with three simple anti-scam tips. The president of the “Young people of yesterday” association was given State police gadgets, playing cards with the effigy of the State police coat of arms, “to remind all of them that even in playful and carefree moments, the policemen are always close to them.”
