In Tuscany we are ready to grow geothermal energy, a sector that represents a clean, renewable, constant and programmable source of energy.

Thursday evening in Pomarance the provincial Democratic Party organized an initiative in which the president of the Tuscany Region, Eugenio Giani, mayors and local administrators, economic categories and trade unions took part; an opportunity for information and in-depth analysis which attracted great participation and great interest.

The Tuscany Region is working to build an organic and structured proposal to submit to Enel Green Power in the discussion for the twenty-year renewal of the concessions, made possible by the “energy decree” of last December.

The project, to be built with the contribution of all the subjects in the field (municipalities, economic categories, unions), will be the basis for tracing a new development of Valdicecina and the geothermal areas: we are faced with a historic opportunity for development of the entire sector, as well as making the path towards decarbonisation concrete.

The proposal will include, as hoped for by many, the construction of new power plants (up to eight), the valorisation of local businesses, professional training, the expansion of the geothermal area which also includes Volterra, the relaunch of Cosvig, an observatory for compliance with agreements, resources for infrastructure, environmental improvements, social interventions and cultural initiatives.

These will be the pillars of the agreement to which Enel Green Power will have to comply. A demanding job and a great responsibility, which the Region takes on, in the face of a historic opportunity, which involves defining a correct, balanced and equal relationship between the Region/territory and the concessionaire (Enel Green Power).

Now it will be essential to do quickly and well to achieve this renewed objective, which is of great importance for the future and sustainability of our territory and Tuscany. Qualified skills and possibly an extension of the assigned times are needed. We are all aware that the future of a large slice of Tuscany depends on the relaunch of geothermal energy.
