“This year – explains the general director Alessandro Delle Donne – we bring an important news to the Race for the cure. We will be present with a mobile unit and, thanks to the collaboration with the staff of Sisp, the Hygiene and Public Health Service of the Bari Local Health Authority, we will proceed with the administration of the anti-HPV (Papilloma Virus) vaccine for those who fall within the screening range: girls and boys aged 11 and over, women born since 1989 and men born since 1996″.

Anti-HPV vaccination prevents almost 90% of HPV-related cancers, including several urogenital and oropharyngeal cancers. “We participate with enthusiasm in this event – continues Delle Donne – because we deeply share its spirit: we must always take care of our health, not just when we go to hospital. Prevention can also be a celebration, a joyful moment of sharing”.

The Race

The importance of the event was highlighted by Riccardo Masetti: “This year – he recalled – the Race for the Cure in Bari reaches its 18th edition, an important anniversary which has consolidated roots in Puglia and which has allowed even more to Komen Italia to spread the culture of prevention and implement concrete projects in the local area. We have generated a positive change in the way we deal with the disease and put the protection of women’s health at the center, a topic on which attention must always be kept high.”

The big news this year is the 10km race reserved for competitive athletes which will join the two traditional routes, the 2km walk and the 5km run open to all. The start is scheduled for 10am on Sunday from Corso Vittorio Emanuele.
