Every time the grass is mowed, the age-old problem of waste abandoned in ditches along the municipal roads of Cesena arises again. A problem of civility and decorum, but also environmental, so much so that the former city councilor Denis Parise, candidate again for the next administrative elections with Cesena Siamo Noi, intervenes on the topic.
“In particular, these are plastic and pieces of polystyrene which, instead of being recovered after mowing – highlights Parise – are left in the ditches and shredded again during the next mowing, becoming increasingly thinner pieces. At the basis of this phenomenon there is certainly the wicked behavior of those who still throw waste on the ground but, sometimes, it involves load losses from means of transport”.
But regardless of how the plastic ends up in the ditches, for Parise “the administration should have the duty to solve this problem, for example by organizing a systematic collection of the waste and plastic present”.
“The failure to collect plastic waste, in fact, in addition to constituting a problem for human health (remember that scientific studies have highlighted the presence of microplastics both in animals and in the bodies of human beings) constitutes an environmental problem for the flow of water in ditches (accumulated plastic and waste, in fact, clog manholes and pipes and from the surface water network the plastic reaches the sea). Therefore – underlines Parise – the waste problem must be addressed at the source because, once the damage has been created, there are no solutions”.
To resolve the problem – according to the CSN representative – “courage, determination and pragmatism” is needed because “this situation – he says – is no longer tolerable”. In addition to civic sense, therefore, according to Parise “there is a lack of adequate supervision regarding the abandonment of waste”, but above all “the concept of ‘produce and purchase less waste’ must be applied. A task that he concludes falls to those who administer this community.”
