a tank was installed in via Minutara Gazzetta in Modena

MODENA. Shared bathrooms for women and men in the changing rooms far from the headquarters, poorly heated and with a tank to remedy broken water pipes. This is how the Modena 118 operators, who have long been hosted in the former barracks in via Minutara, prepare to go to work and change before returning home.

The situation has worsened in the last week, when the operators found themselves several times in the former barracks without running water.

The Local Health Authority responded that there were leaks in the underground pipes in the changing rooms, taking action “immediately to carry out checks and identify the exact points of water dispersion”. The checks, as the company explained, “required, on some days, the temporary interruption of supply”.

However, the two interventions were not decisive “due to the extension and age of the network”. Consequently, since yesterday «the Modena Local Health Authority has activated a connection to a special tank connected to the water network that serves the entire area, so as to ensure supply in the operators’ changing rooms, in the event of further breakdowns and need for subsequent checks and interventions”.

All operations carried out “while awaiting the definitive conclusion of further investigations and consequent repairs”. No reference to a possible return of the changing rooms to the Via Emilia Est headquarters, results in September 2022 inadequate.

Among the incidents reported on the occasion by the CISL Emilia Centrale were water infiltrations and heating problems. The Local Health Authority had taken action with the aim of ensuring “adequate comfort for operators”. She apologized “for the inconvenience caused by the current changing room spaces, further reassuring us of the desire to overcome the current situation”.

A solution was found right at the former barracks in via Minutara, where the current changing rooms are located. A temporary solution, as proposed to operators by the company itself. The months pass, a definitive solution is not in sight and the problems remain.

The operators find themselves sharing the same bathrooms with squat toilets that are not very functional and not very popular. Outside there are still mousetraps, used in the past to clear the area of the former barracks from the presence of rodents.

Heating problems and safety concerns have been reported several times, especially in the evening and at night. L
