LESS EMISSIONS THAN CRUISE SHIPS

VENICE: LESS EMISSIONS FROM CRUISE SHIPS

The agreement aimed at reducing the impact of atmospheric emissions from cruise ships arriving and mooring in the ports of the Venice lagoon and Chioggia has been renewed.

The Venice Blue Flag, which among the various signatures includes those of the mayor of Chioggia, the maritime director of the Veneto and the Environment Councilor of the Municipality of Venice, will last an entire year and was signed in Ca’Farsetti, municipality of the capital lagoon.

With Blue Flag 2024, shipping companies commit once again to running the engines of passenger ships with fuel for marine use that has a sulfur concentration of no more than 0.1% of its total weight: not just at mooring , but also during navigation before entry and in every maneuvering phase within the port area of Venice, Marghera and Chioggia.

Last year the ports of Venice and Chioggia counted 545 thousand cruise passengers; for 2024 it is expected to close with a +5%, i.e. 273 stopovers for 580 thousand passengers.
