I think I am not exaggerating in defining Vittorio Tricarico as one of the most cultured and multifaceted personalities of our city.

In truth, I got to know him more than forty years ago, through his late son Matteo, with whom we shared our high school education, as well as a great fraternal friendship over time.

I was fascinated by his acquaintance, when I was only thirteen years old, because, forty years old as he was, he played the piano, sang Frank Sinatra, wrote plays, had just started studying the clarinet and was a valid and appreciated physical education teacher, as well as who is a trainer and athletic trainer of various sports disciplines.

When I went up to his house, I always breathed an air of culture, nourishing myself and enriching my knowledge, with his quick stories of all kinds, with my eyes always intercepting books placed here and there, literally devoured by Vittorio, as Matteo told me .

Today, one of the many casual meetings in the central Via Maddalena that we have always frequented and here by chance we start talking about theatre, culture, the strengths and weaknesses of our city and the conversation is channeled onto Manfredi di Svevia, founder of our city , to which Vittorio, for many years, dedicated in-depth studies which in 2007 resulted in the first release of an essay dedicated to the prince of the Two Sicilies, republished in June 2023, with the insertion of new episodes, consulting new specific publications presented to the historical-literary world from which he drew.

A historical novel, about his life and his rise to be read with interest, because as they say: you can’t know about the present if you don’t know the past. Antonio Castriotta
