Exactly one year after the flood that brought Romagna to its knees in 2023, the anniversary is being celebrated in the worst possible way: by reliving those same scenes from a year ago, even if the wave of bad weather that hit the Ravenna area on Wednesday and other areas (and which is also expected today) is infinitesimally smaller than that of May 2023, fortunately.
Starting from the Imola area and then moving to the province of Ravenna, a supercell was formed which affected in particular the localities of Bubano and Mordano in the Bolognese area and then Massa Lombarda, Bagnara di Romagna, Solarolo and Sant’Agata sul Santerno. The storm then spread towards the eastern and northern sectors, also hitting the areas of Lugo, Fusignano, Bagnacavallo and Conselice, before finally reaching the Ravenna area. Extremely heavy showers – the amount of rain for all of May fell in less than two hours, as the expert explained – and destructive hailstorms that did enormous damage to the crops.
In Bagnara 74 millimeters of rain fell, in central Bagnacavallo 48 mm, in the northern area 58, in Cotignola 40, in Lugo south-west 61.2, in Solarolo 43.4, in Massa Lombarda 43.2, in San Romualdo 42.7. Amounts of rain that filled the ditches, flooded the streets and also caused some flooding in homes, businesses and some structures, such as in the basement of the Lugo hospital. But above all they have caused anger and fear among residents and business owners, who have seen the nightmare of a year ago come true again.
