Bad weather in Brescia, hail in Franciacorta and on Lake Iseo. Garda, record rise

«To avoid dangers we asked Aipo to increase the outflow up to 130 cubic meters per second». This is what Pierlucio Ceresa, general secretary of the Community, said Garda which has been monitoring – for over forty-eight hours – the evolution of the wave of bad weather which also affects the Brescia area. «The situation in Benaco – continues Ceresa – is under control because in these ten days, when it hadn’t rained yet, we have done prevention increasing the flow from the Salionze regulatory building up to 100 cubic meters per second”.

In the next few hours the situation should improve, but Aipo Mantova has already made it known that in case of emergency the Mincio and the lakes of Mantua could “withstand” an inflow from Garda of no more than 160 cubic meters per second. It shouldn’t get to that point, despite some historical points the basin has invaded the lakefront. Like, for example, in Lugana di Sirmione. The same happened in Punta Staffalo and the rise of the Garda is clearly visible also at Salò and along the Gardesana in the territory of Tremosine.

The lake confirms itself as the theater of climate changes which appear with the intensification of extreme atmospheric events. After all, the numbers speak for themselves given that in less than a day Garda rose by more than six centimeters due to an influx of more than 20 million cubic meters of water. «What happened in the last twenty-four hours must make us reflect – adds Ceresa – as further proof of how difficult it is to govern the lake, precisely due to its geomorphology, as well as the difficulty in containing it. This is why, in my opinion, it is essential to prevent and anticipate increasingly extreme and complex phenomena, which are however fortunately predictable in the medium and short term, given the progress of weather forecasting and its reliability.”

In the afternoon of today, May 16th, the intense rains fell particularly among the Franciacorta and Brescia. TO Corte Franca and Paratico received hailstormsfortunately small in size, albeit intense.
Intense snowfalls were recorded in Maniva on the morning of May 16th. While a Collio the Collio-Ivino road was closed due to a landslide and the breakdown of sub-services. Thanks to the commitment of the Collio civil protection group, an alternative pedestrian route was created to guarantee passage for the residents of the hamlet.

The rains have swollen the rivers that cross the Brescia area. Like the Chiese, both in the Bassa (as in Montichiari, Calcinato and Bedizzole) and in Vallesabbia but also the Mella and the Oglio. Some discomfort between the underpasses, for example a Montichiari, flooded and restored within a couple of hours by municipal workers. While a Squeaks a lightning strike around 4.30pm left the town without water for less than an hour. Then the aqueduct’s electric pumps were restored. Internet problems too.
