“The Perugia Hub: A Project Awaiting Funding”

Vittoria Ferdinandi, mayoral candidate for the center left in Perugia, expressed her concerns regarding the Perugia Junction project. Despite the statements of the Transport Councilor of the Umbria Region, Enrico Melasecche, Ferdinandi maintains that the project is not in conflict with the reformist positions.

Ferdinandi highlighted that, despite 23 years having passed, the Perugia Hub remains a project announced but not realised. Even Minister Salvini, secretary of the Northern League, spoke of the Node as a ‘priority’ during an electoral initiative. However, to date, the project is not foreseen either in the Government-Region program agreement, signed in Bastia a few months ago by the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, nor in the ‘Strategies for infrastructure, mobility and logistics’ section of the Document of Economics and Finance for the years 2023 and 2024.

In the 2022 DEF of the Draghi Government, approximately 10 million were made available for planning and over 450 million euros to be financed. However, in the Mit ANAS 2021-2025 program contract, the Node is still present, but waiting to be financed, with the exception of the 10 million already expected in 2022.

Ferdinandi underlines that it is not enough to promise interventions and infrastructures during electoral rallies to respond to the mobility needs of a territory. The citizens of Perugia are aware that allocations of important state resources are necessary, given the strategic nature of the work with respect to national road axes. Ferdinandi concludes by stating that, if and when this infrastructure is financed, the municipal administration will be ready to deal with it, always putting the protection of the territory and the well-being and health of citizens first.
