This morning in the Sala Maggiore of the Municipal Palace the Municipal Police of Pistoia celebrated 162 years since the foundation of the Corps.
The ceremony opened with a report on the activity carried out by the Via Pertini Command during 2023.
The commander Ernesta Tomassetti announced that a detachment of the Municipal Police will soon be opened in the Fornaci area to strengthen the territorial presence of the agents. This is an important local service, a point of reference for citizens and a listening center open to reports from residents.
Regarding the PM’s activity report in 2023, the increase in some violations emerges: theuse mobile phone while driving (+75%, going from 168 sanctions in 2022 a 295 in 2023), driving without seat belts (+28%, from 191 in 2022 a 244 in 2023), the circulation of vehicles without insurance (+21%, from 199 in 2022 a 242 in 2023), the violation of speed limits so they were raised approx 32,000 verbal. Violations in spaces reserved for disabled people are also increasing (183 sanctions in 2022 e 342 in 2023). The fines for driving without a license they pass by 10 in 2022 a 39 in 2023 and the lack of vehicle inspection from 235 (2022) a 1,075 (2023).

Since 2021 the Command has been equipped with a anti-drug dog unit, with the dog Yeti, who collaborates with the State Police, the Carabinieri, the Financial Police and the Penitentiary Police. The dog unit’s interventions in 2023 were 62 (17 in 2022).
Commendations and recognitions
During the ceremony, commendations were awarded to members of the Corps who distinguished themselves during 2023.
To the inspector Laura Valastroto the chosen agent Masaki Kaneuchi and to the agent Flaminia Sassone a commendation was presented for having identified, after a chase, the person responsible for defacing public buildings with the help of the city’s video surveillance system. The award was given for the operational readiness and determination demonstrated in the circumstance.
The chosen assistant Kalinka Seghi and the assistant Veronica Marzolla, developing an investigation, following a road accident, managed to bring four people to the judicial authorities for dealing and cultivating narcotic substances. The recognition is for the investigative ability demonstrated in the circumstance.
Commendation for operational skills and professionalism in managing a particularly complex situation was awarded to the chosen assistant Fabio Torsello and to the agent Erika Baldaccini for the arrest of a person found on board a stolen motorcycle without a license plate who, in order to evade control, ran away and attacked those present.
Thanks to careful investigative activity, the inspector Giulio Capecchi made it possible to identify the perpetrator of a series of thefts within a construction site, which also led to the discovery of a waste dump. The award was given for the commitment and investigative skills demonstrated.
To people Emanuele Mastroberti commendation for the courage and promptness demonstrated in an intervention to break up a fight, regardless of one’s own safety, thus preventing the situation from degenerating.
The inspectors Primiano Giagnorio And Antonella Trinci they received a parchment for 40 years of service to the Municipal Police.
Finally, a commendation to all members of the Corps for the commitment, altruism and spirit of collaboration demonstrated during the flood events of last November 2nd. The staff worked in the municipalities of Quarrata and Campi Bisenzio, providing support to the affected population and ensuring the functioning of the administrative machinery.
