310 thousand euros intercepted from passengers arriving and departing from Florence airport thanks to controls by Customs and the financial police.

The disputed passengers were traveling with euros, dollars, pounds and Swiss francs in tow, but had not made the currency declaration, required by European and Italian legislation in cases where an amount greater than or equal to 10,000 euros is transported. The fines imposed totaled approximately 13 thousand euros.

Among the “pinned” passengers is a Malaysian citizen with around 25,700 euros, who had been stopped in 2019 at Malpensa airport with over 19,000 euros and therefore in the last five years he had already made use of the right to extinguish the offense with the oblation. The seizure was therefore triggered, as required by current legislation, of 50% of the sum exceeding 10,000 euros, equal to 7,850 euros.

Even though the so-called Summer, a period in which air traffic increases significantly, has just begun, since the beginning of the year 65 passengers have been intercepted who attempted to move currency worth over 1,060,000 euros, who have been imposed administrative sanctions of over 46,000 euros.

Furthermore, checks were carried out on approximately 270 passengers in transit which made it possible to detect the movement of money for approximately 1,900,000 euros, even if below the threshold required for the mandatory declaration.
