According to Istat data, in 2022 33% of foreign families residing in Italy lived in absolute poverty. For Italian-only families, the incidence of absolute poverty in the same year was five times lower. These figures, which certainly do not reflect the complexity of the intersection between poverty, legal status and discrimination, nevertheless invite a collective reflection on the access to social rights of the foreign population in Italy, for the development of practical action strategies.

During the day of June 6th in Bologna, we propose to collect ideas, perspectives and experiences relating to access to work, welfare and housing for people with a migratory background. Through interventions and discussions in working groups and dialogue with jurists, representatives of administrations, trade unions, associations and movements, the objective will be to formulate practical proposals for the creation of “social citizenship”.
