agreement with the organizers, the case is included

BRINDISI – Thanks to a further economic effort on the part of the Municipality of Brindisi and a remodulation of the distributions, discontent and misunderstandings regarding the economic resources to support the four events linked to the sea that will enliven the Brindisi summer should have subsided: the international Brindisi – Corfù regatta (organized by the Circolo della Vela Brindisi, scheduled for June 9th); the Italian offshore sailing championship (also organized by the Brindisi sailing club, scheduled from 24 to 29 June): the Brindisi – Vlora regatta (scheduled from 4 to 6 July, organized by the Lega Navale section of Brindisi); the “Adriatic cup 2024 international motorboating trophy”, with the return of the Formula 2 world championship (28-30 June, organized by the Italian motorboating federation and the Porta d’Oriente nautical club).

The partnership agreement between the Puglia Region and the Municipality of Brindisi provided for the allocation of 185 thousand euros (160 thousand euros provided by Bari, the remaining 25 thousand euros, already budgeted for the Brindisi – Corfù, by the administration) to support the events. The sailing club would have benefited from 100 thousand euros for the offshore sailing championship and Brindisi – Corfù, while 65 thousand euros would have gone to the Adriatic Cup and 20 thousand euros to the Brindisi Vlora.

The Sailing Club, however, had expressed strong reservations about the possibility of guaranteeing both events, with an economic contribution of that size. In recent days, the councilor for Productive Activities of the Municipality of Brindisi, Luciano Loiacono, met all the organizers individually. In the end it seems a square has been found, on the basis of a further allocation by the municipality (from 25 thousand to 35 thousand euros) and a refinement of the distribution.

The note from the sailing club

In short, the case seems to have been resolved. This is also demonstrated by a note issued yesterday by the sailing club. “It is clear that the organization of an international regatta and an Italian championship – we read in the press release – involves high costs dictated by the setting up of the locations, as well as by the hospitality towards juries and crews and the organization of the events collaterals that have aroused so much appreciation and interest in the citizens of Brindisi, crews and tourists in transit”.

“This is the reason why the financial support of the Puglia Region and the Municipality of Brindisi, as always happened – we read again in the CDV press release – is indispensable”. “With this in mind, the representatives of the Sailing Club met the councilor for territorial marketing of the Municipality of Brindisi Luciano Loiacono last Monday who, having explored the organizational details, provided reassuring elements regarding the amounts of the contributions that will be recognized to the Club through ongoing administrative measures for the better organization and realization of the two events”.
