«After what we learned from the statements of the President of the City Council, our former member, the reflection arises spontaneously: at the first difficulty the majority melts like snow in the sun». The PD secretariat of Porto Sant’Elpidio a Mare spoke after the statements of the Prime Minister, Diego Tofoni, who criticized the administration for the choice to hold a cycling race on the seafront. A decision that generated an outcry from traders and public establishments.

«Reading the words of Tofoni, who speaks of a lack of communication between the council and the majority members, who according to him were not aware of the organization of the three days of cycling, then passing through a request for a change of direction from the council on the hottest topics that concern our town (safety, projects to be completed, etc.), of councilors too busy with catwalks and photos rather than with the problems to be solved; we find it hard to believe that these words come from the city’s second institutional office. Words that do not surprise us, as the Democratic Party, since, for a year now, we have never missed an opportunity to reiterate in all the forums, to underline the absolute immobility, or to use a euphemism , having just passed May 1st, the “absolute Zero” of the political action of Ciarpella & co. , who in addition to benefiting from the resources and projects put in place by their predecessors, have done little. Having said that, starting from the assumption that every sporting event, even more so if it concerns young people, must always be favored and promoted – they add from the secretariat led by Carlo Cognigni – if on the one hand we welcome the choice of this administration to bring to Porto Sant’Elpidio, an event which meant that as many as 600 athletes with their teams from all over Italy had the opportunity to stay in our area this weekend. However, we believe that the communication relating to the aspects which revolve around around such an organization (think of the communications on the road system, on the times in which the event would take place, on the alternative routes that could be taken in the city, etc.), but above all a total lack of consultation with all those commercial and entrepreneurial entities, that instead of threatening the closure of the shutters, if well informed, but above all if given the conditions, with ad-hoc initiatives linked to the sporting event; they would certainly have suffered less from the negative effects of the closure of the seafront for three consecutive days. But it certainly cannot be us, who currently sit in the opposition, who have to suggest what is the best path to take in these cases, even more so when, just a few months ago, the municipal administration implemented the much-vaunted Consulta of tourism, which would have been the panacea to all problems and which instead, in addition to a few minutes of popularity for the president and member of the same already known outside our municipality, seems to have produced very little. In conclusion, nothing new under the sun. As the Democratic Party we feel we are giving a very negative opinion on the first year of this new administration, which with this exit of their majority member clearly certifies a rift, in our opinion, which is difficult to heal.”
