The weekend of 11 and 12 May turns into a journey through time and culture in the province of Trapani.

From Marsala to Segesta, from Selinunte to Vita, every corner tells a thousand-year-old story of heroes, artists and traditions. From the Silent Party® at the Cloister of San Domenico in Trapani to the inauguration of the Wine Museum in Marsala. Discover the events:

MARSALA – On Saturday 11 May, the day on which the historic Landing of the Thousand and the memory of the civilian victims of the Second World War occurs, you will be able to admire the historic Vespas on the “Footsteps of the Thousand”. In the afternoon, then, in the San Pietro Complex, the interesting appointments with historians promoted by the Garibaldini Risorgimental Studies Center (Prof. Cristina Vernizzi) and by the Terre d’Ovest Wine Route (Prof. Luigi Mascilli Migliorini). This will be followed by the inauguration of the pedestrian area in via Cammareri Scurti – a space to be enjoyed in complete safety for young and old – with a parade and dances by the historic 19th century group. In the evening, May 11th ends at the Impero with the concert by Lidia Schillaci and her Woman Orchestra. Sunday 12 May: opening of the Marsala Wine Museum, dedicated to John Woodhouse. The event at Palazzo Fici – enlivened by Roberta Genna’s jazz – will be underlined with a philatelic postmark curated by the Italian Post Office. Furthermore, the inauguration of the Museum also coincides with the naming of a room after Marisa Leo (wine woman victim of feminicide), to whom the artist Fabio Ingrassia dedicated a pictorial work. Finally, the Museum also hosts the initiative of OI Italy which has set up the space “Glass embraces the Territory”, a permanent exhibition dedicated to the history of glass, as well as to the themes of environmental and social sustainability.

MARSALA – Sunday 12 May Open day of the Archaeological Site of the Punic Moat in Marsala, from 10:00 to 13:00. Entrance from Vico Infermeria.

TRAPANI – A unique event will be held on Saturday 11 May in the evocative Cloister of San Domenico on the occasion of the May of Books. Organized by the Municipality of Trapani, the Department of Culture, the Luglio Musicale Trapanese and the Fardelliana Library, the Silent Party® will combine books and music in an enchanting environment. During the event, from 7.00 pm to 11.00 pm, participants will be able to experience the magic of reading and music by wearing wireless headphones for a sound and multi-sensory experience. The DJ set will be curated by Ciccio Barbara, guaranteeing atmospheres and rhythms for all musical tastes. The cost of the entrance ticket is 5.00 euros. LIFE – On 12 May 2024 the Feast of the Madonna di Tagliavia returns, an unmissable event for the people of Vito and for all visitors who wish to immerse themselves in an atmosphere rich in history, tradition and popular culture. The celebrations will open on May 12th at dawn with the exciting “alborata”, followed by the firing of firecrackers and the ringing of the sacred bronzes. At 8.30 am the blessing of the animals participating in the festival will take place, while at 11.00 am the solemn mass officiated by the Bishop will be celebrated. The afternoon will be dedicated to the parade of the Cavallari, Burgisi, Viticulturists and Massari classes, with decorated horses and carts that will wind through the streets of Vita. The day will end with the evocative procession at 9.30pm, followed by the pyromusical show in Piazza Luigi Pirandello, which will close the celebrations in a memorable way.

MARSALA – Saturday 11 May, at 9.15 pm, the theater show “La hunger – Act of theatrical resistance”, by Massimo Pastore, will be on stage at the E. Sollima Theater. MARSALA – On stage at the Sollima theater in Marsala, Sunday 12 May at 6.00 pm, for the XXIV Concert Season of the L. Van Beethoven Academy Association, directed by Maestro Giuseppe Lo Cicero, the duo Achille Succi (Sax) – Danilo Blaiotta (Piano ).

CASTELVETRANO – the Belicittà Shopping Center in Castelvetrano hosts the exhibition “The Prince of the Seas” by Giuseppe Di Salvo, from 11 to 26 May. The inauguration is scheduled for May 11th at 6.00 pm, while, among the collateral events, the book “Il Signore delle Tonnare” by the journalist and writer Ninni Ravazza will be presented on May 18th at 6.00 pm

FAVIGNANA – On Saturday 11 May at 6.00 pm at Palazzo Florio, a meeting will be held with the writer Evelina Santangelo, author of the book “The feeling of the sea”, winner in the narrative category of the 2024 edition of the “Costa Smeralda” award. The event is part of the literary review “Readings among the Islands”, organized by the Municipality and the Egadi Islands Marine Protected Area, in collaboration with the Galli Salve Bookshop – Ubik Erice. Camilla Cederna will be in conversation with the author. Entrance is free.

ERICE – An evening dedicated to solidarity will be held on Sunday 12 May, starting from 7pm at the parish camp of Ballata.
The event strongly desired and organized by the parish priest, Don Toni Adragna and by the Insieme per Ballata association will see the performance of the Trentapiedi choir from Erice, and the children of the Dragon King dance group from Buseto Palizzolo. Entrance will be free and the proceeds of the evening, determined by a voluntary contribution, or from the sale of sandwiches with sausage or traditional sphinxes, will be donated to the Le Luci del Dopo di Noi association of Trapani, which takes care of the inclusion of people suffering from disabilities in civil society, for the improvement of their quality of life, with various kinds of activities dedicated to them and their families.

MARSALA – Saturday 11 May, 6.30 pm at Finestre sul Mondo (via Sibilla 34) the story of Franca Viola will be staged for the Teatro dei Pupi Siciliani.

ERICE – Saturday 11 May, from 9.00 pm the VIII edition of “Cuscusiando” will be held, an evening dedicated to tasting Trapani couscous in collaboration with local restaurateurs and the provincial association “Cuochi Trapanesi”. The evening will be enlivened by music with performances by The Remakers. On Sunday 12 May, at 9.00 pm, the famous host Salvo La Rosa and Giuseppe Castiglia will hold the show “SHOW”.
