Europeans, the foreigner passes through Cremona

Brescia ‘rips’ Cremona 8 to 1; Bergamo outclasses them 4-1; same result even in comparison with the ‘small’ Lecco. These are not the results of a sports championship, but the desolate response coming from reading the lists of candidates fielded by the parties for the electoral competition for the European elections on 8 and 9 June. The only Cremonese candidate for Brussels is the outgoing MEP Maximilian Salini. For those who do not vote for Forza Italia, the choice will inevitably have to fall on a ‘foreigner’. Nothing new under the sun, one might say, since the politics of our country does not find representation not only in the rooms of the central government, but not even in those of Pirellone.

The Roman glories of the ‘thoroughbred horses’ of local politics are far away, as Luciano Pizzetti And Maurice Nuts, both undersecretaries. Those of the then ministers were very far away Ennio And Stephen Jacini, Ennio Zelioli Lanzini. We cannot see on the horizon a personality that can be used at a regional level like that of Gianni Rossoni, who rose to the rank of deputy of the governor Roberto Formigoni and is now involved in the management of the homogeneous Crema area. ‘Verum esse ipsum factum’, what is true is precisely what is done, argued Giambattista Vico (Naples, 1668-1744). What happens today here in Cremona, three centuries later, is the confirmation of the vision of the inventor of the modern field of philosophy of history: the theory of historical courses and recurrences. Vico maintained that some events repeat themselves in the same way, even after a long time and this happens not by pure chance but on the basis of a precise plan drawn up by divine providence. We, more prosaically, could say today caused by human political ignorance.

The task of bringing Cremona to Europe therefore remains entrusted to a single person, Salini, who also has good chances of confirmation. The void on the right is desolate as is, above all, on the left (after all, the centre-right at least has one of its ‘champions’). There are not even the names of those who were once defined as the ‘water carriers’ during electoral competitions. That is, people with little hope of election, but able to guarantee a good package of votes at a local level. Yet Cremona would also have had to offer some marketable names, not necessarily as a wingman. In the first instance we could mention, for the secular and liberal area, that of the economist Carlo Cottarellimoreover already burned by the fresh experience in the Senate, but which perhaps for a higher level, the continental one where the great strategies for the future are really decided, could perhaps have been a winner.

By looking further to the left, the face of could have emerged from the mists Mauro Ceruti, a philosopher who has already worked in politics as a senator of the Democratic Party in the XVI Legislature (2008-2013). He is the protagonist of the elaboration of complex thought. We all know well how complicated and multifaceted the world is today, particularly in the phase of major geopolitical crises like the current one and of changes that require analysis and lucid inter- and trans-disciplinary elaboration. His contribution could have been important. A lot has always been spent on Europe. «We must save her! We are on the edge of the abyss » she has always stated. His books on Europe are translated into the languages of the continent and even into Turkish.

In the secretariat of Elly Schlein there is the Cremasca Stefania Bonaldi, which was responsible for Public Administration, Professions and Innovation. She is also absent from the candidate lists. The right brains, therefore in theory there were, evidently the Cremonese electoral base is considered marginal. And indeed it is. Furthermore, again on the principle of historical courses and recurrences, once again it must be noted that the European elections are seen as a sort of referendum on the performance of the government in office rather than for their intrinsic value and meaning. The entry into the field of almost all party leaders and government members goes in this direction, who have already confirmed their intention to renounce their seats once elected with the sole exception of Matteo Renzi.

The one that has just begun will be, as unfortunately happened in the past, a focused electoral campaign on national topics, with little space reserved for European issues, which will instead be decisive for the daily lives of citizens. From environmental policy to agricultural policy, from budget rules for member states to the army and common taxation. Europe needs a concrete change of pace if it wants to continue cultivating the ‘common dream’, wars on the borders require timely and unanimous interventions. Like, for example, the good performance given during the Covid pandemic, with real and effective coordination of the various governments, for the development and distribution of vaccines to all citizens, with the implementation of adequate funding to support of the great commitment and for the reconstruction.

And instead in Italy we will most likely witness the personalization of the political conflict, with the candidacies of the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the leader of the main opposition party, Elly Schlein and similar. After four centuries the centrality of the West is waning, new geopolitical balances are taking shape, our model of democracy shows serious cracksEurope is becoming the periphery from the center of the world it once was and we are forced to take care of recording the debate on Roberto Vannacciknown as the General (as per the ballot paper) who would like to reintroduce special classes for pupils with disabilities and is an advocate of other similar amenities.
