Ancona, a drama crew damages the historic monument at the Passetto. Accusations and controversies. «Ready to pay damages»

There is no peace for the war memorial in Ancona which, for years, has been “wounded” with spray cans and markers that smear its pure white. Outrage to the memory of the brave soldiers who died during the Great War which the Municipality has cleaned up every time. The last time, a few days before Liberation Day but, immediately after, the Town Hall found the work defaced again. So much so that we want to think about “anti-writer” ordinances and the use of real private security guards. Without considering that there will soon be a new video surveillance center with 127 cameras aimed at strategic points in the city to catch vandals live.

The crew

Last Monday, however, a crew from the drama «Alex Bravo» had to shoot a scene right on top of the Monument where the new writings that deface it were noticed. At that point, the workers tried to erase the graffiti with clumsy methods and, above all, without any authorization. To be able to do this on a similar monument, in fact, specialized companies need special permits, including the authorization from the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the provinces of Ancona, Pesaro and Urbino. This is why the police arrived and immediately stopped the “cleanup” demanding accountability and reason. «It was a superficial decision by two of our technicians, who were well reprimanded for what they did because these are things that are not done in any city in the world», justified Antonio Alessi, executive producer of the drama on behalf of 11 Marzo Film, with the Adriatic Courier. On the same day, Alessi wanted to meet the councilor for decorum of the Marche municipality to apologize for that reckless cleaning and said he was available to compensate for any damages.

Things

The War Memorial it was built, in Istrian stone, by the Ancona architect Guido Cirilli between 1927 and 1930 and was inaugurated on 3 November 1932 by the dictator Benito Mussolini who was visiting Ancona for the tenth anniversary of the advent of fascism. The shrine commemorates the blood tribute paid by the people of Ancona both on the battlefield during the First World War and due to the terrible bombing that the city suffered in 1915 by the Austro-Hungarian fleet. The work of art is located in one of the most evocative points of Ancona and interprets the classical Doric order and here both the Liberation from the Nazi-Fascist yoke and the Republic Day are celebrated.
