“The minimum wage of 9 euros in the program of the Cremona Democratic Party”

As is known, the battle over the 9 euro minimum wage has been and still is central to the PD’s strategy on labor issues.

In the summer of last year the entire parliamentary opposition (PD, M5S, AVS and Action) collected hundreds of thousands of signatures on a united petition to pressure the government to define a law to this effect. This initiative also saw the support of CGIL and UIL who supported the parliamentary initiative from the outside. Meloni and his right-center majority rejected the bill and scuttled it.

But the topic is still open and a collection of signatures on a popular initiative law began a few days ago.

But the important news is that, starting from the municipality of Florence, led by a mayor of the PD, various municipal administrations are proceeding to adopt resolutions which provide for the introduction of a rule in contracts and sub-contracts, a constraint which provides for the application of the minimum wage of 9 euros.

This will also be the case in Cremona if the centre-left administration led by Andrea Virgilio is confirmed.

In fact, in the programmatic contribution that the PD of the city of Cremona developed in various meetings it is written: ‘Promote greater protection for workers.

Introduce more stringent criteria (e.g. minimum wage) and more effective forms of control of contractual and salary conditions relating to employees of entities with procurement or subcontracting contracts with the Municipality and controlled public companies’

Even the mayoral candidate Virgilio, who participated in the meetings, endorsed the proposal which became part of the entire coalition.

An important choice that will change many dynamics and which will no longer see workers – subjects with procurement or subcontracting contracts with the Municipality and controlled public companies – exploited with a salary lower than the minimum wage.

Faced with real problems for workers and their families, the PD and the CSX know how to be consistent with national political choices also at a territorial level.

The side opposing us is characterized, also on this issue, with a lot of chatter and does not make real proposals.

We will move forward.
