PD, Italia Viva and Arci warn Eni and the Ministry of the Environment for failure to dispose of waste in the industrial area of Crotone: “Danger still there”

A legal warning with formal notice against Eni and the Ministry of the Environment was filed by the lawyer Francesco Pitaro on behalf of the federation secretary of the Crotone PD, Leo Barberio, the city secretary of Italia Viva, Mario Galea, and by Filippo Sestito, citizen president of Arci towards the Ministry of the Environment in reference to the need to resolve the issue of the disposal outside the region of the waste produced by the reclamation of the industrial area of Crotone. In the text of the warning, also sent to the Region, the Province, the Municipality and the Prefect of Crotone, it is underlined that in the event of revocation of the outcome of the 2019 services conference, those responsible will assume “directly and personally the legal and penalty of continuing to irremediably damage the territory of the city of Crotone and the health of the citizens and the community and the tourist vocation of the city”.

The decision to proceed with the warning follows the request to convene a new services conference with the aim of modifying the 2019 provision and allowing the revocation of the obligation to dispose of waste outside Calabria possibly using landfills in Crotone. “We have decided to warn the ministry, Eni and the competent authorities to urgently proceed with waste disposal, requesting that all bodies involved adopt immediate measures to ensure that the obligations previously assumed are respected. We also reserve the right to proceed with legal action to protect the territory and the community of Crotone. To date, although approximately 5 years have passed since the services conference, the dangerous waste from the industrial area still lies within the city of Crotone”.

“Eni’s attempt to evade the commitment made in 2019 – underlines the lawyer Pitaro – must be rejected to protect the city of Crotone and its community and the health of its citizens”.
