This is the press release issued by the Caserta Local Health Authority: “The Cancer Registries, which now cover over 80% of the population in Italy, are one of the most important national and international surveillance systems in which multidisciplinary and multi-professional skills coexist. The XXIV Meeting International scientific research therefore represents an important opportunity to share and explore – we read – a wealth of data that supports many areas: from environmental, occupational and clinical epidemiology, to the validation of screening and health planning days, the impact of social barriers and inequalities and the use of new technologies to support epidemiological surveillance will be analyzed from different points of view. The latest trends regarding incidence, prevalence and survival – continues – will be discussed tumors in Italy, with a focus on tumors in the juvenile and adult population and on numerous collaborative studies. The Scientific Committee is made up of: F. Stracci, W. Mazzucco, G. Gatta, A. D’Argenzio, S. Vitarelli, S. Carone, E. Bidoli, M Castelli, MT Pesce while the organizational secretariat is entrusted to AIRTUM , A. Minichino and for the Caserta Local Health Authority, N. Di Pascale. The work will begin with the seminar on “Collaborative Studies: New Horizons”; will continue with the 1st Session “Environment, Territories and the Costs of Cancer”; with the II Session “Territorial Distribution and Trend – continues the note – of Tumor: Estimates from Models”; with the III Session “Epidemiology, Primary Prevention and Screening”; the IV Session “Methods and New Technologies to support Cancer Registries; the V Session “Collaborative Studies” and the VI Session “Factors influencing the Epidemiology of Tumors”. The planned Round Table organized at the opening of the XXIV National Congress of AIRTum intends to carry out a fine evaluation of the essential elements in terms of training, evaluation – we read again – of the quality of the data, of epidemiological and evaluation research in the oncology field of Tumor Registries and related operators. The objective is to outline the substantial contribution that AIRTUm, as a reference scientific society in close synergy with other scientific societies operating in the field of epidemiology, can provide to support the political decision maker through evidence useful for planning and programming the services to be provided in response to the need – he continues – for health expressed by the general population and cancer patients. For decades, in fact, the Cancer Registries of the AIRTum network as specialized, advanced and sophisticated surveillance systems, with multidisciplinary and multi-professional skills, have guaranteed the epidemiological surveillance of tumors more than 80% of the population resident in Italy”.
