The 2nd European Neuro-acupuncture Conference in Siena. The “united nations of neurology” in Siena from 9 to 12 May. China, Europe, USA: an authentic “bridge” between age-old medicine and neuroscience to discuss the new frontiers of neuro-acupuncture and take stock of the treatment of serious neurological diseases, such as: Alzheimer’s, autism, Parkinson’s, dementia, childhood neuro-disability , cerebral palsy, post-stroke rehabilitation and other neurological pathologies.

As part of the four Italian days organized by AMI (Integrated Medical Acupuncture) at the Accademia dei Fisiocritici of Siena, the second European Neuro-acupuncture Conference will also take place on 10 May which includes many international events including seminars of two important seeds – David Alimi and Jason Hao – world leaders respectively in neuro-auriculotherapy and cranio-neuropuncture; workshops with the participation of experts from various parts of the world, such as Tianjun Wang, illustration of scientific posters and debates aimed at deepening the various technical-scientific aspects but also at informing about the potential and successes of a set of medical techniques with innovative results and surprising in the treatment of the outcomes of serious neurological pathologies, both in resuscitation and in post-event rehabilitation.

AMI is the Sienese association of doctors and patients that for years has been the protagonist in Italy of the training and first clinical experiences of neuro-acupuncture, a modern branch of acupuncture reflexology that combines ancient oriental wisdom with modern neuroscience. AMI was promoter and scientific director for several academic years of the specialization course at the University of Siena entitled “Acupuncture in neurology”.

Cecilia Lucenti, acupuncturist, president of AMI and one of the leading Italian experts in Neuro-acupuncture comments: “Neuro-acupuncture is today both a theoretical and clinical reality with great results in hospitals and clinics all over the world, especially the United States, China and Japan. The pathologies treated range from stroke outcomes to Parkinson’s to dementia, with surprising results also in childhood neuro-disability and cerebral palsy. In these cases neuro-acupuncture often comes alone as pathologies are not yet within the reach of Western medicine. Furthermore, these techniques, in addition to being effective, have a low operating cost, zero toxicity, are applicable on a large scale and, compared to traditional acupuncture, can be easily integrated having been tested by doctors and already in Western medicine settings”.

The 2nd European Neuro-acupuncture Conference held in Siena is sponsored by: CNR, National Medical Association, Tuscany Region and USL Toscana Centro, as well as the Swiss Cantonal Hospital, London Academy of Chinese Acupuncture and Volterra Ricerche Foundation. Among the partners we should mention: FISA Italian Federation of Acupuncture Society, ARTOI Foundation, Auxilium Vitae Riabilitazione, Lilt Siena and Academy of Scalp Acupuncture UK.

The first edition of the European Neuro-acupuncture Conference took place in 2023 in London and saw AMI as co-organiser. The important and often exclusive results obtained in the treatment of serious neurological pathologies have led AMI to organize around the Conference a corollary of in-depth studies, comparisons and seminars which thus become the first “Italian Neuro-acupuncture Days”.

The 2nd European Neuro-acupuncture Conference in Siena

During the 2nd European Neuro-acupuncture Conference, scheduled for May 10th at the Accademia dei Fisiocritici in Siena, important documentation will be presented that deals with the history, research and clinical applications on a global level of this new neurological branch of acupuncture that represents a truly new medical frontier. Among the other contributions, all with extensive scientific validation and operated in predominantly hospital settings, is the one on clinical experience in Parkinson’s, facial paralysis, stroke, pediatric pathologies and in the various phases of rehabilitation.

The Tuscan hospital clinical experiences will then be presented, introduced by Dr. Cecilia Lucenti, AMI resident and by Dr. Carmelo Guido, anesthetist and acupuncturist, director of the historic “Fior di Prugna” regional center of the USL Toscana Center and scientific consultant of AMI.

A scientific workshop will be held on the afternoon of May 10th with the participation of important international experts; from China, the United Kingdom and the USA (California and New Mexico) as well as Italy: David Alimi, Jason Hao, Tinajun Wang, James Lu, Cecilia Lucenti and Rosaria Ferreri, who will show how the definition of neuro-acupuncture includes a complex series of interdisciplinary techniques: auriculotherapy, craniopuncture, physiotherapy activation. Among the various interventions, the one on “Neuro-acupuncture, a feasible future to integrate acupuncture in the training of doctors and in Western clinical practice”, which reports the experience of a university training model experimented in Italy with the prestigious specialization course of Acupuncture in Neurology – which saw Dr. Lucenti as scientific director – held on behalf of the University of Siena in the previous three academic years.

“Acupuncturists in Italy are by law graduated and registered doctors – explains Dr. Cecilia Lucenti – therefore not only a guarantee of correct diagnosis but also a real possibility of integrating this ancient discipline, in light of continuous scientific validations, into our healthcare system , especially the public one. My experience in the field has seen recoveries of patients who were hopelessly discharged from rehabilitation facilities and instead returned to an almost normal life. While the results of pediatric neuro-acupuncture are even exciting, where, due to the great receptivity of a young growing body, the powerful acupuncture stimulus produces immediate motor and cognitive effects”.

Official data shows that at least 2 million Italians appreciate acupuncture (22% of the population according to ISTAT data). “AMI is dedicating many resources to the information, training and clinical application of neuro-Acupuncture – continues Lucenti – formed in the second half of the 20th century, which combines ancient oriental techniques with the acquisitions of modern neuroscience. The results – evident in the large numbers, especially in China and the USA – represent a unique opportunity for the treatment of those neurological pathologies, also in their rehabilitation outcomes, for which Western medicine has not yet found effective treatments. Many hospitals around the world are now using these techniques which, in addition to being effective, have a very low cost and are applicable on a large scale.”

What is neuro-acupuncture Neuro-acupuncture is formed, in addition to classical acupuncture, by different types of recently developed Chinese and Japanese craniopunctures and by Western neuro-auriculotherapy, in particular that codified by French neurophysiologists. AMI’s action has already seen a series of initiatives relating to this modern branch of acupuncture including a specialization course at the University of Siena and the recent agreement with the Volterra Ricerche Foundation active in the hospital departments of Auxilium Vitae Rehabilitation in Volterra in addition to the publication of the “Stories of Neurological Acupuncture” by the newly formed AMI Editions.

AMI – Integrated Medical Acupuncture is an association of doctors and patients founded in 2018 with the aim of integrating the knowledge and diagnostics of traditional medicine with acupuncture through effective, inexpensive treatments without side effects. AMI was born in Siena, in Tuscany, a region that has always been sensitive to the integration of medicines and where, not surprisingly, the first Italian hospital for integrated medicine was born: the Pitigliano hospital centre, where acupuncture is integrated into neurological rehabilitation and orthopaedics, as well as in oncology and geriatrics.
