Forza Italia, Anna Maria Vecchione resigns from the role of city coordinator: “A chapter closed”

“In my role as city secretary, despite myself, I find myself having to write this message because I believe that the political situation that has been created in my city does not represent me”, with these words Anna Maria Vittoria Vecchione announces her intention to resign from the role of city coordinator of Avellino for Forza Italia. “I chose Forza Italia because it was an opposition party, but party logic, whether acceptable or not, led to choices which, although acceptable from a European perspective, are not acceptable at a city level. In reconstructing the story, it is important be clear. Many of you may be unaware that the choice of Rino Genovese was made because it represented, at a coalition level, the right option. However, at the time, the outgoing administration was still active during the process; things have changed and I no longer participated in any discussion table because I was not invited. I always made myself available and turned to Fulvio, even organizing meetings exclusively in my studio, with personal financial commitments on the Forza Avellino list, a list that does not represent me, with outgoing councilors. I don’t identify with the ideology of this list. The absence of Forza Italia candidates doesn’t seem right to me. I believe that, instead of having a sterile discussion on the symbol today, in light of the choice made, all the leaders of Forza Italia Avellino should take the field and not look for the person responsible for a failed policy. You can’t escape by placing the responsibility solely on the city secretary. It is true that for the first time Forza Italia is participating in the municipal elections without a symbol. Perhaps, listening to the voices of many of us, a different choice would have found more consensus. But the moment there was an official announcement from the leaders, either we adapt or we go away. I attempted a different synthesis, but in politics only numbers count and not the whims of individuals. Having an education and political sensitivity that do not allow me to accept certain choices, and not wanting to be someone’s puppet, I can say that today Avellino is not loved and I do not want to contribute to this. Therefore, with this message, I present my resignation as city secretary. My thanks always go to the leaders for the trust they have placed in me, but the conditions for a peaceful municipal political campaign no longer exist. Ad maiora”, he concludes.
