I am two 20 year old guysa new driver, the protagonists of the speed race between large-engined cars, improvised in the middle of the night, on the road, in the area of Castelfranco Veneto (Treviso) and then ended up on social media. The facts date back to April 7th.
The investigations of the Carabinieri made it possible to ascertain that around 2.30 am of that day, in via Brioni of San Vito di Altivole, the two young people – a 23-year-old of Albanian origins and a 20-year-old Italian new driver – challenged each other to drive their own cars, a ‘Audi and a Volkswagen, improvising a race, complete with ‘starter’, which ran for several hundred metres, involving both directions of travel on a curved section of the road.
Numerous young people crowded along the roadside, passionate ‘spectators’ of the very risky and reckless manoeuvres, some of whom recorded a video of the race posted on social channels and then found by the Carabinieri investigators, ‘on patrol’ on the web.
The analysis of the videos and the witness interviews made it possible to identify the alleged drivers of the vehicles who were then reported for the violation of the Art. 9 ter of the Highway Code (ban on speed racing with a motor vehicle). In addition to the judicial authorities, the conduct of the two will also be examined by the Prefecture of Treviso, with a proposal to suspend their driving licence.
