ASTI. Killed for one word too many. The argument that broke out on the evening of Tuesday 30 April in the center of Canelli, in Piazza Carlo Gancia, turned into murder. The victim is Nafugi Manneh, an eighteen-year-old from Gambia, attacked by another migrant of Pakistani origin. The carabinieri are questioning the guests of the reception center where he lived: according to initial findings, the two groups – the Gambian one and the Pakistani one – had been in conflict for days over issues regarding the management of the kitchen.
The brawl broke out brutally in the center of Canelli when the two groups came into contact. One of the Pakistanis hit the eighteen-year-old with the anti-theft chain of a bicycle. Another 24-year-old Pakistani migrant was reported for aggravated brawling. The attack was recorded by video surveillance cameras, and occurred before the eyes of some passers-by. The Gambian boy was hit ferociously in the head several times. That same evening the carabinieri immediately tracked down the attacker and arrested him while waiting to assess the condition of the injured man.
Rescued by the 118 team and transported by helicopter in critical condition to the hospital in Alexandria, the young man from Gambia died in the intensive care unit in the following hours. Hospitalized in a coma, doctors had to give up yesterday afternoon when tests revealed that the blows inflicted on his head had caused irreversible injuries. Now the twenty-year-old Pakistani boy is accused of murder. Another 24-year-old Pakistani migrant was reported for aggravated brawling.
All three guests of the Cassinasco migrant reception center would have already previously had disagreements within the structure. The police are questioning the guests of the reception centre: according to initial findings, the two groups, the Gambian and the Pakistani, had been in conflict for days over issues regarding the management of the kitchen.
