The presentation of the book by Rossana Carturan “Marinella” (All Around editions). The presentation is organized by the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired, Latina section and by UNIVo.C. During the presentation of the book, also available in audio version, some pages will be read. The initiative represents a novelty in Latina with regards to introducing blind and partially sighted people to reading, a first step in a collaboration that will continue in the coming months.
Marinella is a blind teenager who became blind at the hands of her father. Her mother Teresa manages to distance her from her parent and from Naples, the city where they live, by fleeing to a mountain town in northern Italy. Marinella’s story is told by herself in the first person. In the background the Bologna massacre, a pretext for Teresa to refute the truth about her daughter’s impairment. When their lives seem to have found the right serenity, an unexpected event will present itself to them, becoming the prelude to a new drama.
The presentation in collaboration with the UICI is an opportunity to break down the social and cultural barriers that have always separated able-bodied people from disabled people.
