Vinitaly, Caputo: we focus on DOP economy and Campania brands

We return from Verona with the awareness of having represented the entire regional wine system, starting from the peculiarities of the different geographical areas and aggregating all the territories in the Campania brand, thanks to the synergy with the chamber system and the collaboration of the presidents of the protection consortia. We must start again from this important goal, joining forces, to be increasingly competitive on the markets and focus on the DOP economy. From tomorrow we will focus on Vinitaly 2025, with the certainty of supporting and accompanying our companies, in the direction traced by President De Luca”.

The speech by the Agriculture Councilor of the Campania Region, Nicola Caputo, during the 56th edition of Vinitaly. To better understand the effort of the Campania Region, just look at the numbers: over 180 Campania wine companies present; 2,000 labels; exhibition space of approximately 5,800 square meters (second only to Veneto); 6 masterclasses with international guests; 2 important conferences on PDO economy and promotion of wines in the world of pizzerias; 1 event to celebrate the 800 years of the Federico II University, with the lectio magistralis by Luigi Moio, one of the most successful wine scientists; collaboration with the 4 Campania Chambers of Commerce and the 7 producer consortia (Vitica, Irpinia, Sannio, Vita Salernum Vites, Vesuvius, Campi Flegrei and Ischia, Sorrento Peninsula); support from the regional wine shop and the specialized sommeliers of AIS Campania.

“Viticulture expresses all the culture, history and traditions of our community. An extraordinary asset – continues Nicola Caputo – to present tourists with an even richer offer, transforming wine into a testimonial capable of evoking the values, landscapes and beauty of Campania. During Vinitaly, the second edition of the award which rewards wine ambassadors and Italian restaurants with the best wine list from Campania. The jury of experts – composed of Antonio Paolini (Curator of Restaurant Guides, journalist and food and wine critic), Leila Salimbeni (editorial director of the magazine Spirito diVino and collaborator of the Guida Ristoranti dell’Espresso) and Chiara Giovoni (wine expert and coordinator of the award) – awarded: Villa Maiella (1 Michelin Star) for Abruzzo; Romano (1 Michelin Star) for Tuscany; Andrea Aprea (2 Michelin Stars) for Lombardy; From Nando for Friuli Venezia Giulia; Red Shadows for Emilia Romagna; La Credenza (1 Michelin Star) for Piedmont; Enoteca La Torre in Villa Laetitia (2 Michelin Stars) for Lazio; Monticelli Knowledge and Flavors for Molise; Dimora Ulmo for Basilicata; From Tuccino to Puglia; The landing for Calabria; Don Camillo for Sicily; Peter Brunel (1 Michelin Star) for Trentino Alto Adige; Le Calandre (3 Michelin Stars) for Veneto; Forte Village for Sardinia; Posillipo restaurant for the Marche; Paolo Griffa at Caffè Nazionale (1 Michelin Star) for the Aosta Valley; San Giorgio for Liguria; The Seven Consuls for Umbria.

“The objective we have set ourselves – concludes councilor Caputo – is to strengthen the link between the Campania of producers and the restaurateurs who are testimonials of our wine production outside the region. This journey doesn’t end here: our dream is to create a Campania wine network, made up of those who know about wine and those who really care about its promotion”.

For the first time, the wines most present in the menus of the restaurants that were nominated Ambassadors last year were also awarded: “Vino Mainstream”, Costa d’Amalfi Furore Bianco Dop “Fiorduva” by Cantine Marisa Cuomo; “Red of the Year”, Colli di Salerno PGI from Montevetrano; “Bianco dell’Anno”, Greco di Tufo Dop “Giallo d’Arles” by Quintodecimo; “Bubble of the Year”, Caprettone Spumante Classic Method Pietrafumante Brut by Casa Setaro.
