Palazzo Margherita hosts Giacco’s work – L’Aquila

THE EAGLE. “In a flap of wings”, the work created by the L’Aquila artist, has been placed in Palazzo Margherita, the seat of the Municipality. Emanuela Giacco on the occasion of the fifteenth anniversary of the earthquake of 6 April 2009.
The installation, which enjoys the patronage of the Municipality of L’Aquila, was inaugurated last April 5th inside Palazzo Ardinghelli, where Maxxi L’Aquila is located.
«With this installation we hope that the entire community will metaphorically free its wings, we hope to return to savoring the wind, freedom, rebirth in a renewed intellectual resurrection», wrote Giacco.
«Culture represents the driving force of the path of social and physical regeneration that our city is undertaking. Art can constitute an added value for the reconstruction process enriched by the contribution of creative minds that trigger interactions with the territory, enhancing its many aspects and the different resources that it is able to express. This is why we accepted the idea of enriching the spaces of Palazzo Margherita with the artist’s work, an emblem and wish for strength and renewal” declared the mayor of L’Aquila, Pierluigi Bionditogether with the Heritage Councilor Vito Colonna. The wings symbolize the future and the past represented by the thread of the cocoon which remains sculpted in the metamorphosis, in the new shape of a butterfly. The knots, however, recall the emotional and physical bonds which, together, constitute universal energy. Of the predominant colors of the sculpture, blue is the purity of a new birth, the sky, that sky that you look at to be closer to your loved ones who are no longer there, while the gray is given by the rocks of L’Aquila, icons of strength and resilience.
