PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – Three weekends dedicated to discovering the hidden beauties of the city, with new experiences and thematic walks: a route that is part of the third edition of the “Genius of Palermo”, organized by the Le Vie dei Tesori Foundation together with the University of Palermo.
The name of the event is a tribute to the secular deity of the city, patron of artists, protectors, dreamers and indeed geniuses: it begins this weekend (19-21 April) and will be repeated in the following two (26-28 April, 3- May 5). Among the 17 places involved are Palazzo Alliata in Pietratagliata, Villa Belmonte all’Acquasanta, the caves and reservoirs of San Ciro, the Aeroclub of Boccadifalco, the convent and cloister of Santa Maria del Gesù, the sources of the Gabriele, Palazzo Oneto in Sperlinga and the Teatrino degli Argento; there will be twelve thematic walks and will involve botanical wonders, art treasures, scientific collections, green areas and art nouveau villages.
Acting as godmother at the presentation of the event, held at Palazzo Steri, is the president of the Le Vie dei Tesori Foundation Laura Anello: “The Genius is testimonial of the talent, innovation and beauty of Palermo – she explains, – We want to tell a knowledge that from cultural institutions such as the University takes to the streets and is sown through visits to symbolic places: the idea is not to celebrate beauty in an exquisitely aesthetic sense, but to ensure that we can learn in these places”.
Also present was the rector Massimo Midiri, who underlines how “through participation in the Palermo Genius we are increasingly developing a third mission activity, which focuses strongly on the transfer to the city community of information, tools and knowledge present in the university environment following a logic of collective cultural growth”. Midiri then focuses on the record numbers regarding enrolments: “We have crossed the finish line of 47 thousand enrolments, we are the first mega University in Italy in terms of number of enrolments and we note a 16% increase in master’s degrees, which in this moment are the last moment of transition between university and the world of work: even the Genius represents the valorization of individual abilities, our goal is to train young people so that they have skills to use in the workplace to improve the community”.
