Acitrezza, car ends up in the sea, 62 year old seriously injured
The Fire Brigade team of the Acireale Detachment of the Provincial Command of Catania intervened, shortly after 2.00 pm today, at the Porto Nuovo of Acitrezza to rescue a person who had fallen into the sea with their car, in the body of water in front the marina.
The team that arrived on site found the 62-year-old man already on the dock, as witnesses reported that a tourist operator present at the time of the incident had thrown himself into the water and managed to take him out of the passenger compartment of the car while that it was sinking.
Having ascertained that the person had no heartbeat and was not breathing independently, the firefighters who responded began the ritual maneuvers for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and used the AED (semi-automatic defibrillator) present on the emergency vehicle.
The maneuvers combined with the use of the AED, carried out while waiting for the arrival of the healthcare workers, reactivated the vital parameters of the person who was therefore entrusted to the 118 Service staff who intervened and transported to hospital.
Staff from the Catania VVF Diving Unit were also deployed on site to verify that there were no other people inside the passenger compartment of the car or, in any case, who had fallen into the body of water in front of the port.
The car was therefore recovered using a crane sent by the Provincial Command Headquarters.
